I recently received my approved Form 4 for my Vector full size Uzi. A
few months ago, I purchased an M3 (Greasegun) magazine conversion
trigger housing from Chris Humphreys. Chris shipped the unit quickly
and packaged it well. It arrived in short order and in excellent
condition. I was quite impressed with the apparent quality of the
unit, from the welds, which are well done, to the finish, which is
smooth, attractive, and happens to match my Vector fairly well.
Despite the apparent quality, I decided to wait to issue a review until
I had actually installed the unit on my gun and shot it. I'm glad I
did, because now I can attest to the high quality, smooth operation, and
just plain FUN I experienced using it.
I had expected perhaps some difficulty making the gun run with the kit,
maybe a little tuning, but I was pleasantly surprised. Once the unit
was installed on the gun, all I had to do was put in my .45 barrel and
bolt, load up magazines, and make some noise! The bolt runs freely in
the receiver with each of my magazines installed. The gun runs equally
well with the tight-fitting parkerized magazines and the looser blued
mags.
Only two mild failings come to mind when discussing this great product.
First, the selector lever is a bit bulky, and it is difficult to find
the "semi" position. The detent is a bit sloppy for that position, it's
more of a range of positions, from exhibiting a very heavy trigger pull when
the lever is at the rear of the range to occasional doubles at the
forward end of the range. This is not a terribly important problem,
since it's pretty easy to get singles out of the gun in the auto
position. The second mild problem (which really isn't much of a problem),
is that the rear grip contour feels strange in my hand. It would simply
be a matter of cutting and sanding to get a better fit, though, and it
probably wouldn't be a problem for most people. Anyway, I didn't notice
it nearly as much when I was shooting as when I was handling the grip
separately from the gun, probably because I was holding the grip more
like a pistol by itself.
So in summary, I'd like to say that I am overwhelmingly pleased with
Chris's M3 magazine conversion lower, and that I'd recommend it to
any Uzi enthusiast who wants to burn a lot of .45s.
