On the left, are $200 worth of NIW mags from Ohio Ordinance (phone price is 3/$100, web price is 3/$120).

On the right is $100 worth of used mags from DSA ($10 each). Obviously worn, but probably quite functional. Range test is months away.

I wonder how hard it would be to refinish the DSA mags - perhaps in Gun Kote or the likes? I've never tried my luck with refinishing gun parts.

Same interest here, with six NIW Ohio Ordnance mags, three used, but nice DSA mags and two similar IMA mags.

If you're collecting Sterling miscellany, you may be interested in one of these:

$99, NIW. I got one for the hell of it. I figure I'd spend $15 to $20 on a mag strap to couple two NIW mags from OO anyhow.

Let me know if you decide to refinish and what you use. The mags ARE ugly.

Maybe I should weld them end-to-end for a 68 round super-banana mag-o-matic. Or onto a Suomi drum after the ban goes away?:D

Already did a 50 rd banana mag, works well, no hickups yet. Took the left over front and made a 15rd'er. PS Arms gets 99 bucks for one now. Your best way to go is the 68 rd double stack mag. Most competitions that I attend you have to make a mag change anyway and rarely have more than 68 rds worth of targets. The only mag that I use at the "Creek" is a 68 rd'er.;)

In the last few months I have refinished a few dozen of the used magazines. The method I used was long and labor intensive but resulted in acceptably finished, servicable mags.
1st I cleaned the mags of dirt and grease using kerosine. The mags were soaked in a bucket over night and cleaned up easily.
The springs and followers were left to soak in a sealed container of kerosine while the mag bodies were being worked on because some of the rollers didn't turn freely.
The baked on finish is a real pita to remove! I tried several different solvents and paint removers but found the best to use was a foaming oven cleaner and steel wool. The oven cleaner was spayed on and allowed to work for a couple hours with rinsing and rubbing with steel wool 2 or 3 times. The way the mags are formed on the inside and outside of the curves makes these areas very difficult, the sharp corners, bent metal and magazine tensioning spring will make your fingers sore and you will wish that you had spent more money for the niw mags. A bench top sand blaster and a few AK mags to practice on would be money well spent!
I applied a cold blue finish with lots of elbow grease but this winter will parkurize and have them powder coated. Good luck!
I should add: after the initial cleaning it would be wise to load each magazine... I found a few with the lips so worn that they wouldn't hold the ammo after I had put a bunch of work and time into them.

Along with the bunch of 34-rounders from OO, DSA and IMA, I just noticed that SOG has original 15-rounders for $29.95 each. Two of those are now headed this way.

I bought 3 of the mags from DSA. Mine are Very Good + condition. They basically just need wiped down with Rem Oil. They are very robust and well made magazines.

Herr Pear recently sand blasted and delivered a bunch of the FUGLY ten dollar Sterling mags I bought from DSA. These were easily as nasty as the ones Muzzle Flash has posted... maybe worse. I can't believe they're the same mags! Now, any ideas on what product to refinish them with?

Thanks once more Herr Pear!!
