VERY nice, Joe.

When I talked with my examiner Tuesday, she said my F4 was in the computer, but she hadn't received it from Chicago yet (the check cashed on 8-25). She asked me to call her next week and she will approve it on the spot using prints from a previous F4 that cleared in May.

I can't f-ing wait and these pictures only make it harder. Torture me some more, please! :cry

The ATF is a Joke....I just called on my transfer and they said I would have to wait untill the new cards come back....I called before (a year ago) and they said no problem using the old/recent cards.

These guns are built from US made receivers that were registered as a machine gun before 1986 and imported parts kits.

I'm sure our laws are very confusing to the Swiss. ;) They confuse us too!

The ATF here in the States considers certain parts of machine guns to be machine guns all by themselves. This includes > 80% assembled receivers, side plates on some belt-fed guns, auto sears and certain conversion parts. They did this so they could prosecute people for having the capability to readily assemble or convert a MG.

This is a very stupid law that many of us believe violates our constitution. Unfortunately, the prison sentence is severe - 10 years and up to $250,000 fine. Our federal prison has no parole. In the US, many people spend more time in prison for making illegal guns than for murder.

Almost 20 years ago, several small machine gun manufacturers began to exploit this stupid gun law on a large scale. They made these parts and then registered them as machine guns. Some of the parts could be made for $4! This was prior to May 1986 when a new law was passed prohibiting manufacture of MG's for civilians. Some of these parts will sell today for $10,000 because people are really paying for the ATF paperwork that makes the gun legal.

There were approximately 400 of these Sterling tubes made up and registered by a US small arms manufacturer named DLO in the early 1980s. DLO are the initials of the owner, Douglas L. Oefinger. He also made several registered Sten tubes and registered side plates for 1919's and the like.

Several other small arms manufacturers made small quantities of Sten tubes too. Some of the registered Sten tubes are being hacked up to make Sterlings - we call them "Stenlings" because they are a hybrid, not a true reproduction.

You may notice that DLO is stamped on the receiver tube in the above photo, next to the serial number. DLO is the original manufacturer. The Sterling Company markings and serial number on the magwell are meaningless under our laws.

Doug Oefinger recently sold 400 partially-built Sterling tubes to a small group of gun dealers. Most of these dealers send the tubes to Stan's Guns, a very compentent father and son gunsmith shop in Maine owned by John and Stan Andrewski. They finish building the DLO tubes and paint them. Imported Sterling parts from around the world are used to complete the guns and make them fully operational.

This may sound like they are making new guns, when in fact, under our laws, the guns were already "made" when the receiver tubes were partially built and registered in the early 1980s.

Today, these transferable Sterling clones are fetching around $6800. I expect them to become much more expensive when the supply of tubes runs out.
