What is a reasonable time for a class 3 dealer to transfer a gun to my class 3 dealer? I posted here earlier about a Vector Uzi on order. Send the dealer the cashier's check and now he said he is at the Shot Show, not back to shop till Monday. Originally said would fax copy of paperwork to my dealer, but went to SHOT show without doing so. Check received by him on 02/22/03. I am sure he would wait till money in his account, but not sure what a reasonable time is.

In Nevada, if you have the serial number of the gun, you can submit to Chief LEO and he usually signs off in 3 to 4 days. I can do this without the gun really in my dealer's possession, just need a serial number. Once gun in possession i can then send in paperwork for transfer.

I know i am impatient, but what do you guys feel is a reasonable time frame?

At what point are you.

Has the 3 to 3 between dealers been approved, or are you waiting for the selling dealer to send the 3 into ATF?

If the 1st the selling dealer should send your dealer the gun within 10 business days. If he is at SHOT then longer IMHO.

If the 2nd, 3 to 3 transfers to be approved by ATF can take from weeks to almost a year, ya it varies that much. If it is taking along time the selling dealer better be on ATF's ass.

LVHospiceRN, you post is a little confusing to follow. First, 2/22/03 hasn't happened yet so when did he really get the check? Second, it's not clear if he's sent the form 3 to the BATF or not. It sounds like he did send it the the BATF and that you also want him to fax a copy of it to your dealer. If that's the case, then I would say that faxing a copy to your dealer prior to form 3 approval is certainly not required of him and to my knowledge not even that common.

I've been in your shoes before (I remember how I agonized over every step during my first purchase) so I can understand how you feel, but you're going to drive yourself crazy. If he sent the form 3 to the ATF he's done his job for now. Don't worry about about a couple of extra days you might save here or there along the way.

If you live relatively close to your class III dealer, then once he gets the gun you should be able to see it as often as you like. Life will be better then and it won't be that long.

If he got the check on January 22nd and hasn't sent in the form 3 yet to the BATF, then he deserves a kick in the butt. All you can do now is wait until Monday when he's back from the SHOT show and give him a call. Tell him that he's had your check for a month and that you'd appreciate it if it faxed the form 3 in immediately. You wouldn't be out of line after this much time.

Dito the above. Average wait time on form 3 is about 6 to 8 weeks. My last came in at 7 weeks.

:confused

Firstly
Before becoming a Title II (C3) I worked for a C3. I personally had done many Form 4's for myself. They always took approx 12 weeks.
BUT, now since the anthrax business, the fingerprint cards have to go to the FBI. They go first to get fumigated. So, guess what, add more weeks to your transfer.

Secondly
I have never heard of faxing a Form 4. It has to be originals, 2 originals forms w/Photo, 2 fingerprint cards and, of course a check for $200.00.
My advise is for the Transferee to make out a personal check to the "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms"
Reason is when they Deposit your check you will now the Date and you can start counting.

I have a Form I with them (before a got my SOT) over 20 weeks.
they sent a letter to me requiring a ATF F 5330.20 (CERTIFICATION OF COMPLIANCE WITH 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(5)(B) ) which is a certification of citizenship. Requirements from 911.
Dealer (C3) to dealer on Form 3's don't have to be done, I'm told by Ms Laurence (at ATF)

:bounce2 :bounce3 :bounce4 :bounce5 :bounce6

FINALLY GOT MY FORM I BACK = 23 WEEKS, 2 DAYS

Good Luck

Form 3 sent by dealer on 02/1203, anyway that is what the form is dated, so who knows?

My dealer just wanted a copy/fax of the form 3 so we could do the intial paperwork to get CLEO signed, which we can do before gun transfered, just needed to get SN of gun.

Just one of those chomping at the bit things...i just wanted to ensure there was a REAL gun floating around out there...haven't been burned on internet yet on gun purchase, jut a bit paranoid....

Oh it's true. You can believe us. And you'll know for yourelf before long.

You're not out of line for worrying a bit about dealing with a stranger over the Internet. It's a hell of a lot of money to send to a stranger. Fortunately it seems to be mostly good people dealing in NFA weapons.
