The following is a brief review of this past Sunday's 3 gun match.

MACHINE GUN MATCH 10/10/04
TONY DEE

A beautiful morning for our three gun match. A bowling pin table was set up for the pistol part of the match. 5 pins had to be cleared from the table. Several people had a problem taking the pins off the table. The pins would fall but not roll off. Copious amounts of ammunition was used to accomplish this task.

The shooter then picked up his shotgun and engaged a popper that started a swinger that held 2 clays. The shooter had to break the clays as they swung in front of a hostage.

The course was then reset for the machinegun stage. It was a challenging match for all. A team event was held after the main match.

The next match will be a SUBGUN MATCH on NOVEMBER 14TH . Setup at 0800 match starts at 0900. Hope to see you then.

Yes, another great time but with fewer people than normal. The weather, as you know, has been nothing short of perfect, so the smaller than normal crowd suprised me.

The photo is of a first time UZI shooter. I work with his grandfather, Jay, a former Las Vegas cop from "back in the day." ... A wonderful man with many great stories about the early years in Las Vegas. He's an avid shooter, collector, and hunter that became interested in my C3 firearms and has been attending the subgun matches for several months as a spectator. He's enjoyed seeing all the different weapons, especially the classics, and has become something of a regular fixture. To say his health is declining, (cancer), would be something of an understatement. I honestly don't expect him to last much more than a year, BUT, he is a tough old fart. Anyway, he came out Sunday to watch and brought his youngest, grandson along. After observing from the sidelines, Jay asked me if he could possibly shoot just the pistol portion of the match for grins. I didn't have to twist Tony's arm very hard for him to agree to let Jay have a run at the pistol AND shotgun portion of the match. He did very well with his 1911 but wasn't accustomed to my Mossberg 590 pump shotgun and lost considerable time on that stage. After his run, I offered to take his grandson to the next open bay and let him shoot my UZI. The 18 year old jumped at the chance! I loaded up three IMI 32 round mags and started him off on semi shooting at a plastic water bottle. He had this thing dancing all over the place right from the first shot so we began to practice mag changes. Damn, the kid was catching on fast, REAL fast! Switched the gun to F.A. and he was pulling 2 shot bursts like nothing and sending the water bottle farther down range with each pull of the trigger! I take the kid back and tell Tony he's 'gonna shoot the third leg of the match for his grandfather. I'm standing right behind him in case something should go wrong, but naturally he needs no help and runs the course like a pro besting 14 of 18 seasoned subgunners. He shot in the team event as well, (the photo), and more than held up his end with them finishing a close 2nd. I fully expect he'll be back next month with a couple of boxes of ammo and ready to kick some more ass. FWIW, the day's best posted time was nineteen year old Victor Novak, son of Leon Novak owner of Center Mass Firearms. I need an edge over these kids, and I'm hoping the Sterling will give me just that.

Now I know how you feel Cookie!!! Damn kids......

My son assured me (last March) that dumping a full mag at each target was the way to victory. I think he was BSing me.

Tom , I take off one match and you let an MP5 win ? ;)

It was a THREE gun match!! Just a couple misses with the handgun, not quick enough on the swinger with the shotty, and a mag change with the UZI was enough to let a Black Forest gun do me in. Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Just to show you what a great sport I am, I'll let you win next month!

from what I hear we need to tie Leon's sons shoelaces together from now on ;)

That'd be a good place to start. I think we'd have to make him shoot one handed as well. The kid is very, very good.

I won't worry until he starts shooting an UZI , I just know the MP5 will crash and burn eventually ;)

maybe I should practice , only time I get to shoot is at the matches.

Boy ain't that the truth! Last month was amazing with the number of H&K failures. Not the first time we've seen this either. Now if Larry M's K would choke, we'd be in great shape.

Here's a photo of Jay shooting the shotgun phase.
