What one would you buy if you had to finance one.
say it's used and your willing to go 12K...

I'm leaning towards the CJ/wrangler series since I have a "72 CJ5 with dana 60's that I beat the ever loving snot out of through the woods.
Also it has a back seat (I have a kid on the way)
I can't get a used decent toyota with the exteded cab for 12K but I can get a regular cab.

Also I found out that from "66 to "92 my "72 drive train is good to go. and the "72 ain't much for looks but the drive train is stong and it has the PTO with the manual locks on the pumpkins.

Thanks
Rich

Get the Tacoma. Jeeps are fun, but are figures of the 1980s. They just aren't in style anymore. Around here (not trying to judge anyone) if you drive a Jeep, some people may question your sexual preference if you know what i mean.

Besides a Tacoma should be able to handle 200k miles before anything happens to it. They just keep going and going. I'd only get the Tacoma 4X4 though. The little 2x2s are awful looking.

WHAT?! :jaw_drop

My son and I are "Jeepers". He drives an '85 CJ-7, and I drive a '95 Wrangler. We've owned two other CJs also.

Where the heck do you live? If people are going to question my preferences for being a Jeep MAN, I'm staying the hell away from there! :peep :D

Apples and oranges here. These are vastly different kinds of vehicles with different kinds of uses.

You ask about financing one...if you want to be able to have some resale value at the end of the term then buy the Toyota. If you want a vehicle to bump around in and beat and drive onthe beach or woods then buy the CJ.

Over the years I have owned 4 different Toyota trucks. 2 of them I sold for more than I paid after owning them for 2 years and 3 years respectively. Learn the tricks of buying them for less than anyone else can, take care of them and sell them for more than you paid in the beginning.

The CJ is a great rig and nowdays many of them never leave the street. These have better resale, the ones that go offroad command less for obvious reasons.

Which one to buy ? What do you want it for ? Decide first then choose. Either way I think the Toyota will command a better resale value when compared to the purchase price. Just try not to overpay for either.

JIMBO is exactly right - decide what kind of vehicle you really want first. If you want general utility, by a pickup. If you want an off road truck, buy the Jeep. If you want a SERIOUS off road truck, buy a Land Rover. :eek!

RoverDave makes an excellent point. With every Range Rover you buy, you will get a free mobile brass catcher (forum joke he can explain to you).:thumbs_up :roflmao

Well I ended up buying the jeep (I'm secure in my masculinity hehehehehe.....)
Couldn't find a toyota that wasn't beat for a decent price The same went for the jeep. took 4 days to find the one I wanted @ the price I wanted to pay. I ended up with a 2000 wrangler hard top 5 speed. It was 4K less than any toyota with a extended cab. and still has a decent warrenty.

plus my dad hauls cars for a living cost to coast he pretty much told me what I should pay and what to look for as far as hidden damage.
He was right on the money with the jeep. He told me to find one for 14K and offer them 12K he said that's all they are worth on a lot for that year.
It worked pretty good they didn't even bat a eyelash just ran the credit and had me sign off.

Congratulations on the new purchase and I hope you have a great time with it. Are you planning on going offroad with it, camping, hunting etc. ? I wish you the best. Make sure and take care of it so it lasts the term of your loan!!
