In one of my 1987 GunDigest books, it listed the UZI carbine. It listed the weight (at 8.4 pounds) and the length (24.4 inches, folded)
Now, the mini UZI needs a 19.6 inch barrel to be compliant at 26 inches when folded, why dosent the carbine need to be the same length folded? I have looked in the UZI libary for specs and info, but I couldnt find the anwser. Taking a tape measure, and putting it out t 24.4, it looks real short. My AK folded up is 26 (I think), so whats up with the UZI length?

This is an interesting question on the Mini UZI. Federal law requires that the gun must be 26" overall with the folding stock OPEN. That's how the full semi UZI meets the requirements. The Mini UZI is 35.75" with the stock open, so it seems that it would have been legal to sell it with a 16" barrel, making the overall length 32".
So one of two things must have happened. Either the Mini UZI had to meet federal OAL restrictions with the stock closed (and it does because it's 26.1") or they were trying to make it legal in all states. The first option seems unlikely. The gun is a rifle and should be judged in the same way as the full size UZI. The second option seems more likely. Some states do have stricter restrictions that require the length to be measured with the stock closed. Maybe Action Arms wanted to be sure it could be sold in all states.

I didnt know that. Saying so, if you are in a state that measures with the stock folded you could techniclly put a shorter barrel in.

So the you could get a shorter mini barrel if you lived in a normal 26 inch state, correct?
Also, on the carbine, how many inches does the barrel extend after the barrel nut? I think it is two inches out from the sub-gun, but how many on the carbine?

I have a cut sub-gun. The barrel extends 2.5" from the nut. That puts the O.A.L. with the stock open at 25.5". I guess I'll have to buy a new barrel.
Glad I found you guys. I learned something all ready!

If you're saying that you have a semi-auto, then both the barrel length and the overall length are too short unless you've registered the gun as a short barreled rifle. You should remove the barrel immediately and get it out of your possession. You should not have a barrel in the gun until you get a legal length semi-auto barrel.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I would like to tell you all what I am doing and ask advice. Rather than do that here I'll create a new post. I don't want to get in trouble - that's why I'm here!

1980 Omega. Bought it new. Took it to Sturgis a number of years. I rarely saw another. They years have caught up with me and my fingers are too sore to ride anymore. My youngest son took it to his place this summer. Wish I had bought the newer version with factory bags and fairing.
