I always enjoyed shooting my IMI Mini carbine. It was accurate with iron sights and maybe I was mistaken, but it almost seemed like hearing protection wasn't needed...but anyway, it sure seemed quiet enough.

I plan on getting some coyote hunting done on my friends property and may put a BSA on the IMI Mini Carbine to do so.

Also, I had a customer of mine once that bagged a deer with his 9mm UZI Carbine. Said he dropped it with one shot and that it dropped like a sack of potatoes.

Recently I read here where Barrelxchange guy bagged a deer with his UZI.

I understand shot placement is always a consideration when hunting, and probably more so when using 9mm.

Anybody else had good luck with utilizing a firearm to hunt that may be considered by some, "not generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes"?

In our state, 9mm carbine is within the law regarding deer hunting and one of my co-workers said that hunters won't like that...I told him that he better shut up, put his money where his mouth is and join the NRA... his Browning with Boss system is about to become an "assault rifle".

UZI and sporting...I want to justify sporting purpose and do it in a safe manner...anybody else hunting with the Mini or Uzi carbines?

Hunting restrictions on calibers vary quite a bit from state to state. I think when barrelxchange talked about using his UZI to hunt with he said that he had to use .40SW or 10 mm to be legal. 9mm would not be legal for deer in many states. Even if it is legal in your state, I think it would be borderline at best. You'd have to be a very careful hunter with it - being cautious about shot placement and effecive range.

Be careful, dont harvest the deer with the 9mm carbine just to make a point with the UZI. Now with gun freindly people in the white house, and the senate, and congress, there wont be any more gun legislation in the next two years, we cannot be relaxed, but the current trend in our government is giving back gun rights taken away (AWB1994, current legslation in D.C.)

How would one hunt with the UZI in states where there is a 5 bullet maxiumum?

You'd need a magazine that was blocked to only accept 5 rounds.

And as far as rifles go, the limitation is it must be centerfire and larger than .177 cal.

5 Deer Hunters Shot to Death in Dispute Over a Tree Stand
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: November 22, 2004
AYWARD, Wis., Nov. 21 (AP) - A dispute among deer hunters over a tree stand in northwestern Wisconsin erupted in a series of shootings on Sunday that left five people dead and three injured, officials said.

A man from the Twin Cities area suspected of being the gunman was arrested Sunday afternoon at the line between Rusk and Sawyer Counties, Sawyer County sheriff's officials said.

The violence began shortly after a hunting party saw a hunter occupying their tree stand, Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle told KSTP-TV of St. Paul, Minn. A confrontation and shooting followed.

One of the shooting victims radioed back to their deer shack for help, he said. When more hunters came to the scene, they were also shot, Deputy Zeigle said.

The shootings happened in the town of Meteor in southwestern Sawyer County, Sheriff James Meier said in a written statement. Three people were hospitalized, Sheriff Meier said.

One victim was in critical condition at a Marshfield hospital, a nursing supervisor said. KSTP reported that the other two wounded were being treated at a Rice Lake hospital, where one was in critical condition and the other was in fair condition.

Wisconsin's deer gun hunting season started Saturday and lasts for nine days.

Bill Wagner, 72, of Oshkosh was about two miles away, near Deer Lake, with a party of about 20 other hunters.

After they got word of a shooting, it took him and others about three hours to round up the rest of their party. Mr. Wagner said they heard sirens, planes and helicopters and noticed the surrounding roads blocked off.

"When you're hunting you don't expect somebody to try to shoot you and murder you," he said. "You have no idea who is coming up to you."

The incident will not stop their hunt, Mr. Wagner said.

"We're all old, dyed-in-wool hunters," he said. "We wouldn't go home because of this, but we will keep it in our minds."

Yes, this makes a great case for carring a UZI into the field with one or two 25 round mags. Hunters are useally a tame bunch.
