View Full Version : Misprint in "Guns of Dagenham" ???
On page 153, "Notes on Zeroing All Sterlings" it says...
"The mean point of impact (MPI) should fall within a square 1.5" above and .5" below and between .5" left and 2.5" right of the point of aim."
These lateral tolerences can't be right, can they? I'm guessing the correct lateral tolerences are 0.5" left and right of the point of aim. What say yall?

I assume they're talking about 5 single shots and not a burst of 5 rounds, although a burst would account for the up and right allowance stated.
More importantly, there's a Land Rover in the photo on page 152. Those Brits know their vehicles.
There’s a lot going on here. He says that this works if he were shooting from prone with the left hand rested, if I recall correctly. That may have worked for Peter, and may for others also, but perhaps not for you.
Open bolt guns, in my experience, can’t be sighted like rifles. The POI will change (often dramatically) with a difference in position and support of the gun. A gun that is placing it’s shots exactly where wanted off hand will not likely do so from the bench and sandbags, or perhaps even a strong siting position.
Often, if its right where you want it with singles, it may prove to be off with bursts. You will just have to spend some enjoyable hours playing around with all the possibilities to get it where you are comfortable, and you will learn a lot about your gun in the doing.
Have fun.

I was going to respond to this as well, but you did a much better job. I'm glad I waited. :)
I hadn't considered the effect of the open bolt on POI, but that makes a lot of sense. I would personally sight it in for the way I would use it in a subgun match.
I agree that we all will need to expend 1000's of rounds getting to know these little gems. Satre should be getting my F4 in any day now. I can't wait!

Bolt learch. You can not control it so you have to compensate for it.
