I ran into an instructor I trained under yesterday.
He is a US Customs guy who trains their Tac teams and does civilian stuff as well on a limited basis.
He was a co-instructor with Chuck Taylor at several Markham Park courses I attended; tactical handgun, etc...
I asked him if he would do a course if we could get some guys together and he said yes if a minimum of 8-10 guys at $150.00 or so a day.
Just wanted to guage the interest here and see what we could do.

What type of rifle/equipment would we need to bring? If it's SA, I might be interested depending on the schedule (I usually work every other Saturday while classes are in session).

Just a semi AR, mags and ammo. He also has a few ARs for student use.
He usually does at least a 2 day course, 10-12 hour days, but he mentioned he could still do a modified cours of 1 day, how bout 2 consecutive weekends.

OK guys, Tactical Firearms just sold me a course at his place.
Some of you may know he is a hell of a shot and also an instructor.
Anyone who seeks instruction from a peer is a guy I want to learn from. It indicates a lack of ego and desire to excel.
Kudos!

All egos are left at the door especialty mine. We already have way to much on the street that we must deal with everyday. Our staff has wanted to take a class with Eagle for quite some time, and has never come to past. Maybe it will this time. Our select fire course will be held in Delray Beach Feb 19th and 20th, followed by our carbine in March. Select - fire to be posted Jan 19th.

Would a semi AK or UZI be acceptable? I probably won't be getting my first AR until later this year (when I plan to purchase three receivers to build up).

AK would work.
SoFltodd is up for it as well, that brings us to 4 people, then of course finding dates.
Tactical, let me know how many guys you have. I would be happy to set this up, I know how much of your free time you volunteer for the shoots so I'm more than happy to do it.

Sorry for the delay.
I was waiting to see if we got some more response here over the weekend.
So far it looks like 5 people from this board. I was thinking about posting on other boards but I am most comfortable with the folks here. I am selfish and want to cut down on the flake factor.
I'll call Nelson today and let him know. Hopefully he can just let fly with a date and get some other folks as well.
I would be intrested in the class if it is on the weekend. Please post the dates so I can see if I am off (for semi-auto). Thanks, from Jackson MS. PM me for a phone number. Ed.

Might be interested also. Dependant upon time/dates. Just need a semi AR? I assume some type of mag harness also?
No pistol for transition training? Just got a C&S HP I am itching to use. Besides I need an excuse to buy a thigh holster.
Shot alot of IPSC and tactical handgun in the past but would love to get some real training. Would also be interested in Tac Firearms academy's select fire course when you have a set date.

I talked to the guy last night, he says April or May, still working on dates.
Equipment needed is any rifle (repeater prefered)
Sling
Mags
Mag carriers
Handgun and holster
Knee pads recommended for kneeling to prone and transition work.
He was telling me about the course content and I am extremely fired up!

Could I get a course content? I would like to know how much it varies from our lesson plan.

Here's a paraphrase of topics from our converstion. Remember, I have a poor short term memory.
Trans from rifle to handgun
Shooting positions
Movement
Night shoot
Transitions from shooting positions
target engagement
threat assessment
Short basic review of trigger control/sighting
loading
tactical reloading
use of slings 1 point, 3 point, etc...
use of cover and concealment
liability issues (I am huge on this, although we have to win the fight, that is stage 1. Stage 2 is the big scary boogie man the legal system)
Home defense
These are the things we discussed, not a course outline. I love this guys enthusiasm and thoughtfulness.
He also mentioned that students should, ahem, assess their fitness level.
Not that he would run us like 18 year old recruits ( I would die)
But 2 12-15hour days might make that 8 pound AR or 20 pounder with groovy tac-o-rama stuff get a tad heavy not to mention hoisting my fat ass around a range all day.
I'd suggest to drop Nelson an email @ www.eagletactics.com

February would have been perfect for the SMG course if I wasn't going out of town that weekend. Its the GF's birthday. She would kill me if I told her I was missing it for a "gun" course.
Anyway, I am in for the Tac rifle course later in the year assuming my schedule at that time is clear. Sounds like alot of fun.
BTW I am in the process of acquiring my dream toy. A true cult collectors piece in the gun world. When I get picks I will post them in the photo section. I hope the deal goes well.....:D

Pay for her to take the course with you and call it a birthday present.

Unfortunately guns just aren't her bag. I like doing things together but truth be told fishing, hunting, and shooting are what I do to get away from her, lol!!
I took her on one hunting trip this year during bow season. Bugs and heat aside, she was a champ and never complained but I had the rest of the year to myself and the other sick slobs I hang out with to hunt alone.
Truth be told and all kidding aside I would like for her to learn at least the basics. I have always felt shooting is like learning to drive. Eveyone should at least familiarize themselves with it for safety sake. I have found 99.9 % of all anti-gunners are made so b/c they were never introduced to the sport. They base their opinions upon zero hands on knowledge. Take an anti shooting and introduce them to it slowly and they will invariably change their tune.

I was informed this weekend that Nelson gave a carbine class last weekend at Markham, was I the only one that missed this?

Everybody missed it.
It was a private one day class.
I was lucky enough to get an email.
He invited me since I had been through some courses with him before and there was one or two slots open and I jumped on it.
He still has not put a date together for us yet.
I'll keep you posted.
