Guys,

I seem to remember someone mentioning the need for a special crimp die when using the older Berry's load Amphibian described above. Is this the case when using PD bullets as well? I don't remember whether the PD bullets were advertised as plated or jacketed. Again I will be reloading the Precision Delta bullets on a Dillon 550.

Precision Delta sells jacketed... load like any other, set crimp to .377/.379 and carry on. I load my 147 FMJ from them to 1.150".

I had mentioned that everyone should be using the Lee Factory Crimp die.....regardless of bullet type. This die not only applies a crimp but more importantly, it resizes the case further down the base of the case. When using brass that has come out of a SMG chamber like an UZI, the brass can be so swelled that it will get stuck in an MP5 or guns w/ a match chamber. Using that die eliminates that issue. I have used my reloads in all types of match barrels and MP5's w/ no issues since using them.
The Lee FCD is so inexpensive, it is a no-brainer to use it.

Is the Lee FCD also recommended for use when reloading .45 ACP? While I have never had a stuck 9mm case I also have not shot nearly as many guns as the rest of you and will benefit from your experiences. I have had a several stuck 45 ACP casings in a friends 1911. Since then I chamber check each round using a spare 1911 barrel which can get very boring. I noticed the following product offered by Dillon and was considering it in both 9mm and .45 ACP.

What say you guys? Are these unnecessary? Does the Lee Crimp Die eliminate the need to chamber check the completed 9mm and .45 ACP rounds? Thanks again for all the great advice and suggestions.

Yes, that Midway link is what you want. Yes, get the .45 also. This will most likely resolve you're issue of w/ getting stuck cases in that 1911. I wouldn't bother w/ the chamber checker but I'm not a "match" shooter either.

Percision Delta 147g and VihtaVuori N340 is the quietest combo I have come across. 3.9start 4.3max 1.142 OAL. This is straigh out of VV's load sheet.

This is very quiet, and is very clean, Little more pricy $26/1lb but I think it is worth it. N320 is another very good powder for suppressed 9mm. N320 is Dr. Dater of Gemtech's favorite powder for silenced 9mm work he should know.

I like N340 because it is not a dense powder and there is little to no chance of a double load because one charge fills over half the case if you were to double charge it would be overflowing.

I use to use W231 but this is much quieter and cleaner N340 that is.

+1 for Trident9's load using Vit N340....I load mine just a little bit hotter than the 4.3 grns to ensure it works in all my Subguns without issues...Still is Subsonic however. Also +1 for the Lee crimp sizing die...I switched over to these for all my pistol reloading.....Lee also makes a undersize/depriming die...but it is a pain in the ass....I do not recommend it.
The faster powders work well for my pistols and shooting in semi auto but I find that the medium burn rate powders run my Subguns much more reliabily.

I have tried just about everything as far as powder goes and I always end up going back to 3.9gr of bullseye with a 147gr bullet. Cheap, clean, quiet.

The crimp die just produces more consistant ammo. I check all my bulk reloads with a Dillion case gauge. I figure that if you shoot reloads in an open bolt SMG and don't check them you're just asking for trouble. I started after an OOB event(no damage, but scary and bullet stuck in barrel) and am glad I did. Watch out for 9mm cases headstamped LY 93!

That Chinese/Norinco, headstamp both LY and CJ I think it was.. majority of it is soft. I used to load some of it back in those days, found primer pockets get loose, so anymore it is scrap metal to me.

+1, but I'm a super cheap ass. When I reload, I feel that the primer seats too easily and when I check it, I see it is usually some of that brass then I put it in separate box that I mark 'Bad Brass'. I save that ammo for when I shoot in wooded areas and don't plan on picking up any brass.

To me this is a major advantage of the Dillon 650 over the 1050. I think the 650 is better for cheap asses like me that want to feel the primer seating operation. With the 1050 you don't have that sensitivity since everything is happening on the same stroke. With the 650 the priming is separate. While the 1050 does swage the brass the military crimped primer pockets, you'll never know if you have a LOOSE primer pocket unless you actually check all your loaded ammo which I'm too lazy to do.

The LY 93 cases that wouldn't pass the case gauge test appear to be thicker or otherwise screwed up.
The one that I had an OOB with, was a LY 93 which blew the side out of the case as it was chambering in an FA FS Vector Uzi. Lost enough energy out through the ejection port that I had a 147gr Berry's FMJ stuck about 1/3 of the way up the spout. Broke the gun down, gently tapped the bullet out with a cleaning rod section and carried on. Very cheap education!

I have a bunch of that LY 93 that we recoverd after the shoot this year, i pitched it all into the scrap brass bucket, its just not worth messing with.

Like Amphibian I’m a cheap bastard when it comes to reloading, with that said everybody uses either 147gr or 158gr bullets. Do any of you use the cheaper 124gr bullets and if so what results are you getting? Recipe would be nice also. Gun will be a P226 and the suppressor will be a Trident, if that makes a difference.

I use a 147gr Berrys plated on top of 4.0 Bullseye, it works fine in my mini Uzi/MK9K and my G19/Trinity. I found that 3.8 gave me some ejection issues do to not enough ummpf.

I have yet to reload any of the brass fired from my M11/9. So i have not ran into an issue with needing the Lee Crimp Die. But its on the list for the next order.

How ever, i am shooting the same loads that i shoot in my XD w/Trident in the M11/9 w/o issue.

Hornady 147gr FMJ (encapsulated) with 3.2gr of Titegroup.
Super quiet in the XD and the M11/9 with a MK9K
I also have a few cases of PD 147 FMJ that are next on the reloading bench when im out of my current stash.
Just had 5k 115gr delivered from PD yesterday. Those are next as well.

What kind of bullets should I use? I see that Dillon has Berry's plated 147 gr. RN for $102.70/1000 and Midway has Remington 147 gr. FMJ for $139.99/1000. It does not seem like there is a large selection of 147 gr. bullets. Also is there any particular powder you guys prefer?

I was on a waiting list the first year Dillon market the RL550. After 3 rebuilds I have to operate the primer bar by hand because she’s so worn out. New primer bars have no affect, but she’s still kicking out match quality ammo.

Which is better accuracy wise PD or MG? I know PD is cheaper but it also has exposed bottom. I want accuracy and prefer fmj/cmj no lead on bottom. Big difference between them accuracy wise? I would like some zero's but looks like they do not sell to public no more. I'm not sure where theys tand on accuracy either. I got some samples of zero's to try though. I am using extreme and really don't care for them. I have used Berry's and another brand also and all were plated. I want to get away from plated bullets. To much inconsistancies.
