    AK74 pistols

Does anyone make an AK74 pistol? Are there any other 5.45x39 pistols?

Thats a very hush hush topic. Something to do with a bullet ban or something of such.

I was told that the reason we don't see steel core 7.62x39 anymore is because people started making 7.62x39 AK pistols.

Note that all the cheap surplus stuff that is currently steelcore. If what I've been told is true, I really hope a 5.45 pistol does NOT come out.

I just wish I would have grabbed one of those East German 5.45x39 bolt guns back in '95.

    From what I've read,

If there is a pistol made in the caliber, steel core ammo isnt allowed to be inported anymore.

So say NO to 5.45x39 pistols.

I want to keep a good cheap supply of 5.45. At least until I get a stack of crates saved up.

Some Jack a$$ on gb keeps putting one up. And yes no more steel core with a pistol. The 5.45x39 surplus is very very mild steel and not ap it's just the mind steel was cheaper then lead. If the steel core 5.45 is ban for sale it would take the best thing about having a 74 away. Cheap ammo!

What is the source for believing the ammo will be banned if there is an AK74 pistol?

Understood. I'm not looking to ruin things for anyone. I'm just trying to learn.

Wow, thank you for that article. Now I'm glad there is not an AK74 pistol. I'm guessing the SBRs will not ruin it for the rest of us because they know those who legally own NFA stuff are not going to use it the wrong way.

SBRs are NFA items, not considered "pistols". They don't seem to care about that. There are plenty of SBR Krinkov builds out there in 5.45x39, no problem on those. I am just waiting to get my Form 1 back, and I will be building one

Actually, when Olympic Arms made the OA-93 in 7,62x39, the steel core ammo was quashed. I wouldn't sweat it...none of us here are major manufacturers selling to the general public. I have a PSL pistol I build and I got a ton of shit over it...steel core '54R is still available.

Did you shorten the gas system? Cut the barrel? Or is it a pistol only because in has no stock?

It has all been shortened. IIRC, the barrel is ~9" or so and the gas system was cut down to match. It was the result of getting a parts set that had a shot out barrel and a CSS bent blank receiver.
