    Sten Mag Conversion for MAX31

Being inspired by this thread, I am having a machine shop make me some of the fittings needed. I'd asked Richard Lage if he was interested in making them and doing the mag modifications, but he's too busy with other fun projects!

After measuring multiple drums and coffins and my Max31 and Max31A uppers, I decided I'd post my drawing here in case anyone wants to make their own... or I can have a bunch of extras made if there's interest... probably at around $6-$7 each (the machine shop says the parts being small and more difficult to handle makes the cost higher) in small quantity. I'm having them made in unfinished mild steel so they can easily be tweaked/fitted, and cold blued or Duracoated when I refinish my dozen or so old Sten mags.

I'd have to go round up and count all the Sten mags I've got for the actual number of fittings I need, but I'm going to say I'd be in for about 10 of them.

Ask Marty if he can put them on his new mags.
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst, boing or explode, it's not worth shooting. :)

They tell me my prototypes will be here next week. If they work well, we'll firm up how many the rest of you want when I order mine.

Thinking this through, how did you get the exact placement vertically correct?

Match the distance from the bottom of the catch to the feedlips on a drum or coffin mag.

I'm in for 6, provided the cost stays at $6-7

Any advice on welding? Think JB weld would work?

It might -- this certainly isn't a high-stress joint -- but I'm using silver solder, as was done in the original referenced thread.

Thats what I get for looking at the pictures instead of reading.

Whats a good price on a sten mag right now? The prices are so variable right now its hard to tell.

Yea just depend where your look, if you wanna get ripped off buy sten mags off gun broker. I bought 1 last weak here in STL for 15 so I could convert it to fit my MAX31. Just welded a notch on there and had to filed the
Down a little to get a nice fit.
