    Project: Max-11 Vintage (pic heavy)

This is the result of an off and on project I've been working on over the past ten months or so. I started this as an attempt at putting wood furniture on my Max-31 which I am still planning on doing but I got side tracked on the Max-11 version. The original idea was to make a stock that had the correct (for me) LOP and drop which would allow a good sight picture with all aftermarket uppers. This has always been an issue due to the varying height of the sight planes on the OEM upper, Max-11, and Max-31. My previous stocks were also way too long for use with the Max-31. So I based this around a 7 1/2" stock length which I had previously tried out by way of an AR-15 entry-length fixed stock mounted on the Max-31; this seemed the best length for the Max-31 and was still functional with the other uppers.

Special thanks go out to Uzitalk member Okvet03 who sold me his Practical Solutions Thompson stock for M11/9. (BTW, if that stock seemed overly heavy its probably because I pulled about a half pound of cosmoline out of the cleaning kit compartment!) Thanks also to Sam at Practical Solutions for selling me a leftover wood grip for M11/9 which I did not end up using but used as a pattern for the one I made by extensively modifying a M1928 Thompson vertical foregrip. Thanks to Richard Lage of Lage Mfg. for making such great products and offering excellent service. I hope you're not too horrified at my butchery! Thanks to Greg at Carlson Comps for the gas/brass kicker. Great product. Thanks to Leland at Sierra Ordnance Company for re-parking the parts I modified. And of course, thanks to Uzitalk for allowing us subgunners a place to share ideas and general knowledge.

Wow, very nice! I particularly like the shroud/handguard combo.

You might be a gun nut if.......

You Identify the gun on the cover of Dillionís Blue Press before you notice the girl.

Normally I don't like wood on modern firearms but this looks pretty good.

Distal, or should I call you Mr. Radius? That is a beautiful firearm. You took something that looks basically like a brick with a nub for a barrel and really made it beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing your MAX 31 decked out in wood.

Is that little piece of wood on the left side top of the grip a mag release lever?

I was inspired by the exact same originals as you for the exact same furniture. Seriously, yours is better. Props go to were props need to be.

Yes it is. I had to make two different versions cause my first one was a small rounded half-disk and I found it did not allow enough purchase for my thumb to easily release the mag. So this one is pretty fat, and is more squared off from side to side.

I also had to modify the shape of the internal steel linkage a bit to fit the different grip profile. Painted it black too, that always did bother me having that shiny piece of stainless on my gun.

Oh and BTW, the heel mag release is shrouded by the grip and cannot be accessed normally. Not sure if I'm gonna keep it that way or not.

Don't tell Greg but you need to "give wood" to his gas/brass kicker too.
