12 ga upper for M-11/9 project

Are you thinking of patterning off the M1919a4 or a6?

Those are pretty similar for my purposes, the internal design is pretty Mac like, just scaled up- to accommodate this larger set up the upper is to be assembled very much like one- lower bolt rail (to which your lower mounts) bolt, magwell & trunnion are bolted between two side plates. The sides and top of the upper are the sides and top of the bolt channel. i'll post some images this weekend.

On, in the order posted here- by model. the 11/9 version is first.. model specific adaptations are way off but those will be distributed in order posted as well.

One piece of conduit was too small (could make a cool little .22 upper) the larger one could probably be made to work, but being made to work won't fly- each part needs to be plug and play. If I have to grind down a component to fit on each build, I will indeed need to quit my day job to manufacture these. I'll try one more size of tube- if that doesn't work I may need to bend my own.

Picking up a decent steel brake to bend this part in-house, since there is no off the shelf size that will meet my needs and I don't need a high quantity- only one per build. Another good opportunity to add a new capability to my shop for less than the cost of having a couple of parts made.

I'm not a sheet metal man, but won't it be a problem making enough bends to make a TUBE ?

Uh oh.. LMAO you bet- but I only need a u-channel for this upper! Though I think if you made and bolted on a small enough brake, you might be able to make it work. It would need to be about a half inch brake.. and you'd have to take it apart to get the finished piece off.

Or you can form a U channel and weld a piece of flat stock to make a tube.
Or make 2 Ls and weld them together.

Yep, several ways- I'm looking for the best way- meaning sufficiently precise, efficient & repeatable. If I'm going to do something 50 or 100 times I don't mind trying it a few different ways to find the best way to do the other 99. I have considered producing Mac upper flats.. but not sure they would be thick enough! Could be interesting.. but this project will be my main focus for now. Brake should be here next week.

You have to bend metal slightly past the desired angle because it springs back a few degrees. This amount varies, dependant on composition and thickness of the metal.

Yep a little spring back is good, it'll be welded into a mounting bracket. You don't want spring forward!

Getting warmer. The other samples I grabbed were a little thin. I think 14 gauge sheet is where it's at. Going to pick some of those up to test. If it works I'll pre cut one with the the sear gap and tabs for the top of the rear tube section and make the receiver pin block for it.
