    See Through Silencer

I watched a video of a manufacturer in AL (IIRC) who made some clear tubes cans for high speed filming. Pretty awesome stuff if you're a nerd like me.

Anyway, I started thinking. If you can make a clear tube, you can
    1) Make clear baffles and endcaps (hypothetically)
    2) If you can make clear baffles and endcaps, you can make a clear silencer (again, hypothetically)
    3) If you can make a clear silencer, and prevent particulate buildup, you can make a large diameter can and still use your sights.

    Difficulties :
    1) Obtaining Material that is clear, and is durable that also resists buildup. (Maybe Transparent Aluminum with a super high polish?)
    2) Finding a cleaning solution that won't degrade clarity of view over time.

... it sounds like you're asking for Teflon coated magic. Those acrylic cans that were making the rounds blew up on a few occasions.

It's a dream. For now. But when I was a kid, I would have never believed a cell phone could be real, especially one connected to some "internet"(which would also have totally sci-fi)

Technically, the can itself wouldn't have to be clear, only the baffles and endcaps.

I’d just watch the existing video. Lots of work for something prone to disintegration!

At some point, there will be stronger materials available.
Maybe Transparent Inconel will replace all plastics?

Use a series of small mirrors like a periscope to see around the supressor.

Dude, that would be PERFECT for a Steampunk gun!
Brass sleeve over a regular can, adjustable tang sight, etc.
I like the way you think!

That is too old school. You need is a wireless video camera mounted under the barrel that transmits a sight picture to your heads up display built into your sunglasses.

Clock the suppressor so it attaches at the same point every time. Mark where the sights line up, drill the entire suppressor from end to end, and install a tube to sight through.

You'd never be able to see them in a crowded environment.

Or used cartridges that are powered by compressed air instead of gunpowder.

(Yes, I know that "silent cartridges" were developed nearly 50 years, ago, but I've heard each one would require a Tax Stamp, & $200 extortion fee. Wonder if these would also fall under HPA?)

The problem with that is they have to be as loud,or louder, than the noise you're trying to cancel.
