seems like this whole thing is screaming for a dedicated 9mm upper conversion w/ mags to simply plop onto any AR lower

yet 100 companies make one with all these options, most of which dont make sense
Whose uppers are you looking at? Curious. I would expect that they would sell ramped bolts too. ADCO does bolt ramping for $50 (not including 2-way shipping of about $7.50 each way)

KNS pins. Ramped bolt. That's all that is needed.

my first choice is PSA....as ive bought uppers from them in the past and been very happy with quality for rock bottom pricing

im looking at CMMG also...it appears they have both normal and ramped...but on the specs for an upper they give no detail if they are ramped or not

ive looked at about 3-4 other brand names of lower quality than cmmg....i have not put a huge amount of effort into it...searching old threads on the subject to see what others have done....

often you can buy PSA uppers without the BCG when they are on sale...this is probably the path i would take.....then buy a ramped bcg on its own

I love PSA but I have one warning for you in regards to their 9mm uppers. They created a "Hybrid" bolt carrier to work with only their dedicated 9mm lower receivers to provide a last round bolt hold open (BHO) for the Glock magazine guys. Those PSA Hybrid 9mm bolts will not work with several/most of the mag-well 9mm conversion blocks out there so watch out for that. The good thing is that PSA very clearly states this in the descriptions of their uppers so be sure to read the description before you buy an upper from them.

Otherwise your idea of getting a stripped 9mm upper from PSA then getting a bolt and CH elsewhere is a great plan.

I just got a Faxon Firearms 9mm PCC bolt. They are about $157 and are ramped, already cut for Glock magazines, utilize a standard AR15 extractor, and are very nicely made. I'm going to try it in one of my MGs tomorrow to see if it'll run in full auto.

The USPSA creating a PCC (Pistol Caliber Carbine) division in August of 2016 has really opened up the PCC market in general with lots of different manufacturers introducing and advancing their rifles (SIG MPX, CZ Scorpion, etc.) for this class, and many 3rd party companies making parts... far better parts... for the AR15 platform than we've seen in the past several decades.

Happy to report that the Faxon Firearms 9mm PCC bolt and Geissele Super42 buffer and spring (I added a weight, making it an H2) worked flawlessly in two uppers on one of my Transferrable lowers in full auto.

Have you considered the CMMG Guard https://www.cmmginc.com/product-cate...ers/9mm-guard/ for 9mm? My brother is fortunate enough to have a DIAS and a HK sear. He has been a MP5 guy for years. The Colt blow back system is choppy. He has switched to the Guard system and loves it. There is a couple of threads at ar15.com about it. Most seems to have gone with the Glock mags. There is also the possibility of using Colt style mags and there is a thread about that. Look into that as an alternative.

It is my understanding that there is a drop in Glock mag conversion for a standard AR magwell. There is a thread at ar15 that goes into what must be done to modify Glock 33 round 9mm mags for use with the Guard upper. There is also a way to modify a Colt drop in magwell adapter and mag catch to use unaltered Colt style or modified Uzi 9mm mags.

MEAN Arms is releasing a 9mm magazine insert for Magpul PMAGs so you don't have to bother with a magwell block anymore. Brilliant!

Pre-order is now available! Heck, three of these are still less than a Hahn block.

I'll give 'em a shot, why not? Ordered 6.

For me, it is about convenience than about cost. Putting a magwell block into a RR (machinegun or SBR lower) is a PITA. Isn't the whole value of the AR-15/M16 is because caliber changes are so easy? Push two pins, change uppers, and use different mags for a caliber change, with no tools, is such a great feature. Of course it is not so much that way with pistol calibers. 9mm requires an in from the bottom or a in from the top magwell conversion, or converted 9mm mags with an attached mag catch tab. The converted 9mm mags with an attached mag catch tab don't have a good way to be stored on my person, at least that I have found.

So to me, even if it costs more money for the MEAN Arms EndoMag system, it makes 9mm conversion caliber switch just as easy as 6.5 Grendel, or 300 BLK OUT from 5.56X45. And the storage of mags on my person is the same as 5.56X45, 6.5 Grendel,, or 300 BLK OUT. That is why I preordered four 3 packs of EndoMags. I contacted MEAN Arms about the CMMG Guard use. Tommy wrote back that they are working on it and will keep me updated. I think the Guard system is the best thing to happen to pistol caliber conversion for the AR-15/M16 family of firearms in years. This is just my opinion. YMMV.

According to their website Mean Arms is now shipping EndoMag pre-orders. Finally!
When in doubt, empty the magazine.

So if I buy a Colt 9mm upper, use one of these mags and a heavy spring I’m gtg?

Colt uppers have a ramped bcg?

Some ramped bcgs look ramped more than others. The colts look less than others

also i have a geissele trigger...i see mixed reviews if it will work with a 9mm bcg

It should. I have a 45 guard. The bolt carrier might need modification
