I got one of my beta testers uppers finished up and ready to test fire.

I have to modify the AR15/M16 BCG to clear AK mags, then this one goes out to burn through some 7.62x39 and some 5.45x39.

I was wondering why the charging handle is on the right hand side? is it possible to have it on the left?

    Easier/faster/cheaper to machine.
I have a non-reciprocating left side charger setup as well, but it will cost more due to extra machining and small parts.

Cheap is good. Don't need no Cadillac upper. As long as bullets fly out the business end with relative reliability

    Suuuuuuuper jelly!

As an AK user I dig the charging handle on the right side but I bet having used the MAX-10 for so long I'd accidentally go for the left a few times. Still though, loving everything I've seen!

Well, if you or Chili send me the info on the shoot, you're welcome to put as much ammo through it as you want to bring.
Bonus points if you break it!

As a lefty the charging handle on the right is fine by me.

Keeps me from having to roll the gun to the right to charge it.

I'll be honest, one of the most appealing aspects of this upper is the projected $1K price point. This would wreak havoc on the $3K upper market.

The two appear to be different designs internally and at the end of the day, will stand on their own merits.

He's not cut-throating either of the two other companies trying to produce a similar product. He has determined what he needs to charge at the end of the day and the profit level that he's comfortable with, just like they determined what they charge. There is no animosity about that at all and in all of my conversations with him, he has never said a bad word about either of them.

I was priced out at 3k. Especially with many of the parts being off the shelf, common, cheap AR parts. For that matter, I was priced out with the Sabre when they almost doubled their MSRP by the time it was announced until the time that they actually made a few of them.

So, for this being affordable enough to own, my wallet is making my decision which I will own. Not so much me because if it were up to me, I'd own one of each of theirs. But at the end of the day, largely boils down to economics and I think redneckengineer gets that.

I do admit that I am a big fan of interchangeable magwells. That's something that I think most all of us have yearned for since owning a mac. To me, the ability to do that, is enough that interests me enough to buy one in its' own right even while totally ignoring "rifle caliber" and just recognizing it for what it is.

    An upper.

I have bought 2 uppers from Richard. And I have bought a 22 upper from Sam. I have nothing but positive words to say about each of them. I expect the same from this purchase. They all seem like good men.

What is included? Barrel, heat guard, bcg, stock, mag, sights? Just trying to grasp what $1000 buys.

I can't answer that question because the upper is not for sale at the moment and the ATFs response could change things. Ergo, $1000 doesn't buy anything right now.
I have not set an exact price, only my expected/desired price point/range, and that currently only covers the items I have to machine.

When approval is given and I bring this to market, I will clearly delineate what is included and at what price.

Not to be a rumor monger, but has anyone seen a FATD determination letter in the past 5-6 months?
