What's with the red primer? Every AK drum I have ever seen is blued. The Chinese 100 round drums are expensive, but for a machinegun that 25% extra capacity is fun.

WOW, some very clear views of the differences in drum assembly with the photos and the X-Rays.
You can see that the Chinese used rivets to secure the parts that take weight and stress (look near the tower).
The Romanians copied that when they replicated the drums that they produce.
The KCI brand is just spot welded, which is fine for a while or normal range use.
Smack one into a barricade while running thru a shooting drill and the failure of those small KCI spot welds will lead to a drum body at your feet and a "fountain" of 7.62X39!

I should also mention the Romanian made version of the Russian top loading drum magazines.
They ARE the real deal surplus military issue 75 round AK magazine for use with the RPK support weapons.
They are a heavy gauge steel and can take the abuse.
Loaded thru the top, one round at a time, which can be relatively fast once you establish a "rhythm" to your motions.
They use a flat steel "clock" spring which is fine to be loaded for extended periods of time as tension doesn't wear out a spring, cycling it does.
Spring life is measure in "cycles" of tension and release.
I still have a bunch of Romanian drums that need to be handled before I can list them for sale again.

The Korean drums are crap compared to the Chinese.

The Romy are still available.

You might also find a "Bulgarian" drum, which is actually a Chinese drum that was illegally imported. They were forced to stop those shenanigans...

The Romy top loaders are good, also, as are the Roosk version, but are a PITA to load.

There's a couple of Chinese drums on Gbroker currently for under $200.

I recall when you could get four Chicom drums for $100 at the gun show, an SKS for $69, and an MAK-90 "Cheap Chinese POS" for $129 with cleaning kit, three 5-rd mags, and a drum!

You could also get an NDM-86 Dragunov for $379. Shit, those were the days.

You are going to want the "Red Army Standard" imported back loading drum that are manufactured in Romania.

I have only ever seen Chinese made 100 round drums.
For some reason there were never many around, perhaps too heavy?

I think South Korea is making them. It doesn't sound like there is a Romanian variant out there.

5 or 6 years ago I made a drum for my SAR-3, SLR-106ur(5.56 AKs).

BETA CO. makes several feed towers to go on a variety of different guns using the same drum ie. 9mm, 5.56, .308 so I said to myself I can make a 5.56 AK feed tower just as well to go on my AK

so I cut the top portion off a TAPCO GALIL/GOLINI magazine at a angle, that mag works great in my both my SAR 3 and SLR106, then I cut the top portion off a AR feed tower at a angle, again at a angle, then using a block of wood the same width as the mag and bottom portion of the feed tower I mated then together using J-B WELD. for added strength and stability I braced them using alumium flat stock, again using J-B weld.

the drum works great in my AKs feed tower has held up over 5 years of firing several thousands of rounds.
