JAWS - Hatton Industries sightings and data thread

I'm going to grab and collect sightings of these unusual guns. They show up from time to time and there's no hard data about them -- what serial numbers belong to which guns... semi auto or full.... SWD or Hatton.

I'll try and grab pictures, and serials to start with, and any details. Maybe we can create a body of knowledge that doesn't exist today about these obscure items. If you see them online, either let me know and I'll go scour the data and pix, or just add 'em to this thread.

    I'll try to grab

    Serial Number
    Semi or NFA
    Frame or complete gun
    Maker (Hatton, SWD, etc)
    Where seen (Armslist, Gunbroker, etc)
    Hatton/JAWS upper (Y/N)

Talk about an obscure body of knowledge! We could have many TENS of people interested in this!

I got nowhere with the Indian Mills Historical Society. They'd never heard of Hatton when I tried to research it that way. If anyone has addresses, names of principals etc, please add 'em here. If we get enough data I'll tabulate these in spreadsheet form

I just re-read my Mac Man book on these.

It states there were 2000 frames made, and 520 were classified as MGs. 143 of these were sold by JAWS/Hatton Ind, and the remaining 377 were sold to and finished by SWD. JAWS came up with an approved semi design and it stands to reason that the remaining 1,480 were of this type. Possibly more semis were made, but I haven't seen anything clarifying this.

I propose that there are 5 type classifications of the JAWS family guns.
    1. JAWS S-7 Avenger in Semi-Auto (NFA)
    2. JAWS S-7 Avenger in Full Auto (NFA)
    3. JAWS S-7 Avenger stripped reciever (NFA)
    4. JAWS Partisan Avenger semi-auto (NON-NFA)
    5. SWD finished JAWS Avenger Commando (NFA, 377 manufactured)

Types 1 and 2 should be easily identifiable by a 1" longer barrel, among other features. Type 3 I believe is what Boomer owns. If I read it correctly, there should be less than 143 examples of types 1,2,and 3 combined. There should be 377 SWD finished JAWS, easily identifiable by the non folding wire stock.
    1. .
    2. .

What is post #3? It looks very similar to Renovate7's gun in my JAWS thread; SMG features, notch sight with no ears, parkerized, but no cobray logo like a SWD gun. I wonder if it has the Hatton IND stamp on bottom of receiver like Renovate7's does? These could be a type 2 missing the original upper. The S-7 nomenclature may never have been used as I haven't seen it in the real world. They may all be avenger commandos.

The manufacturer on my Form 4 is listed as Hatton Industries and the model is listed as S701.

According to the court papers when JAWS sued ATF only the receiver flats were stamped out for the other 2000 receivers. I do not believe those flats were ever completed as machine guns. The Commano Avengers we’re registered as machine guns but the Partissn Avenger guns were approved as semi auto as far as I know. The best shooters are those that were reworked by SWD.

As far as the serial number I think all guns started with 82101, only the last three digits were the serial of the gun. The 82 is the year of manufacture but I don’t know what the 101 means, maybe caliber? I remember in the registration form where the dealer had wrote in “receiver only” for barrel length the ATF agent wrote in “Should be 6 or 16 inches”. This leads me to believe that these guns were to be sold as carbines as well. I don’t know if they ever made any Carbines though.

It would be so tempting to resubmit the form with " 6 or 16 inches" in the barrel length section.

Question: Does anyone know if any of the Partisan (Semi) guns were sold as open bolt (before ATF stepped in )? If so , how many as opposed to later closed bolt?

Right, I am thinking of the stamping on the reciever. Even on yours it looks to say Commando Avenger. I also not that it appears all the NFA guns start with the 82 prefix. That would be consistent with them being a single run.

They could not have been legally. The ATF informed them they were MGs before any had been completed.

John, can you put links to the other JAWS threads in your first post for posterity please? This will likey become the most informative place for JAWS research outside of the Mac Man book.
