Someone please explain this to me: CCI #41 primers at 23 cents EACH

    https://www.gunbroker.com/item/884071201

As I type they are bidding these up to 23 cents per primer.

    I do NOT understand this.

Evidently some are in full-fledged lost-their-minds panic mode.

Easily explained by the same thing that motivates so many: FEAR!

If you’re just now realizing it’s a good idea to be armed and have no ammo, you might pay whatever it costs. You would also be a fool!

I've done the math and if you have to buy brass each of those rounds is going to cost 50-55 cents. At that price you might as well buy from the ammo gougers.

The other strange thing is that assuming you have the reloading equipment and experience, how did you miss the signs and not stock up on ammo?

    Very odd.

I'm glad that I topped off my primers a year ago (15k) when Midway had them on sale, free shipping and $5 hazmat.

Some people have enough money to buy what they want when they want it, without driving their 64 Rambler Ambassador
to their local gun show hoping to pay $10/thousand like the old days.
Class 3 shooters blow thier loads faster and with only 1 pull of the trigger

Except CCI #35, ALL the primers that I have cost around 4˘ each.
And I have a lot. Been buying for a LONG time.
    And then there is powder.
    My boy is just fine.

I've been buying way more ammo than I've been shooting over the last 20 years. If the SHTF I would be dead long before I would be able to shoot that much. I still don't
understand why these people didn't learn from the Obama years and stock up when it's cheap.

Because a lot of these folks only bought guns in the last year. Had no interest in firearms and ammo until ~2020.

One of my close friends (and his son) fall into this category. They are SOL.

Another friend listened to me and since ~2015 has been acquiring ammo and weapons and mags. He feels ok about what he has.

Those of us who rejoiced in 2004 when the 'Crime Bill' sunsetted are few overall.

Any new/newer shooters I am friends with I help out at cost or free, but my gut tells me 90% of the panic buyers are long time gun owners that didn't listen when they should have, my
brother being one and several of his friends.

I think one of the reasons the shelves are currently empty is because of greedy people who saw an opportunity to make a killing, bought all they could carry, but not with the intention of reloading or shooting it or using it for self defense, but simply to list it on gunbroker to make insane profits. Now that the buying panic/frenzy has started, stuff will fly off the shelf as quickly as it is stocked and the illusion of a shortage will continue indefinitely. Thus the cycle repeats itself. My $.02.

I guess no one remembers the last election when the same thing occurred?

"Probably most folks here do well recall 2008-2010. We're not the problem."

    NOTE
I mean those that are paying .23 each for primers and 1.00 a round for pistol ammo. Most are not dedicated enthusiasts.

Probably most folks here do well recall 2008-2010. We're not the problem.

The election was a contributor but I think it's really a) all the new gun owners that in March-May were motivated and scared not by the election but COVID, riots, BLM, etc etc. and b) very few physical ammo retailers. There's always the local gunshop but WalMart getting out of the handgun and rifle ammo just made things much worse.

Saw some .380 online the other day at well over $1 per round.

If soneone’s buying now, their timing needs to be adjusted.

Latest GB auctions indicate most primers are still trading at 19 to 23 cents each, shipped.

What is weird to me is that one vendor in Ohio has to date, since mid-October, sold literally 50 or so 5,000 rd cases of CCI #41 primers - and the listings are continually renewed / replaced. Either that entity had a huge inventory or has a connection to CCI / Vista. Smart move; probably making about $600-$700 per case.

New record about to be set: $1400 for 5,000 CCI #41 primers. 28 cents each. Oh, shipping is free.

I'm a firm believer in that you can never have enough ammo/reloading supplies/guns/other weapons, but I have, realistically, more of each than I'll ever use. That being said, I'm lucky to shoot 100 rds per month vs what I used the do when I shot competition, which was at least 100rds per day
