Vegas, that's exactly what I did on the last stage although it was a zytel mag. I promptly sold them all on Saturday. No more plastic for me.

We were there over lunch time on Friday (11-1ish?). I saw you, but with all the rain, it seemed a bit busy and a lousy time to meetup. Plus, after our crappy runs, I left with my head held low and wasn't in any mood to chit-chat.

Some people love the Zytel mags but I prefer the PAM-2 conversions even with their limitations, (lack of over insertion stops). Their heavy spring tension coupled with the poly coating on Wolf ammo can sometimes stop the bolt from fully stripping a round at the top few rounds of a fully loaded magazine. Brass cased ammo doesn't seem to have this problem, but that's my observation and may not hold true for all guns/mags/ammo.

Even seasoned shooters have a difficult time remembering to rack the bolt open on a open bolt gun to clear malfunctions. You need to relearn all you knew about clearing malfunctions with an open bolt gun. Throw in the pressure of a timed match, and things happen... very quickly.

At the end of the day, everyone went home alive with nothing more than a small finger cut. We learn from our mistakes. Keep shooting and keep learning. I've shot well over fifty subgun matches and there's hardly a month I shot that I don't learn something new. (You'd think I'd be better... ) I hope your son won't be discouraged by this learning experience and thank you for sharing with us.

That's interesting. While it is still possible, the chance of getting this type of AD is less likely with zytel mags because they have the overtravel stops.

The most common reason for the AD-upon-mag-removal comes when the shooter inserts the mag too far into the magwell. When the trigger is pulled the bolt drops and stops on the rear of the mag. When pulling the mag out with the bolt still pushing on it, the bolt slams forward as soon as it clears the magazine, stripping a round, and firing.

With properly placed mag stops like on the zytel mags, the mag can't be be over-inserted into the magwell.

I just started cleaning the guns from the Creek yesterday and found that the M16/9mm was broken. The bolt carrier key had sheared off one of the screws and was flopping around all over the place. The other screw was just barely holding on. That might just have been what was causing all those malfunctions. FYI

You got that right. Precisely why I do not lend out guns that I am using myself.

sounds like somebody sabotaged chili (other than myself of course). I think it was a conspiracy. Honestly thanks for letting Austin and I use the Colt. It was nice to be able to get in one more run

I hope it didn't cause any damage. That kind of makes me feel stupid, I guess we should have opened it up since we were having all those malfunctions.

It was a blast shooting in all four classes so thanks again for letting us use it.
