The selector marks were not colored. They looked just like sunnybean's, WLA Sterling does, all black. So if you plan to repaint your gun, you have to remove whatever WLA coated their Sterling builds with.

If your gun is PARKED, then just clean the surface, thoroughly. I use synthetic safe Gun-Scrubber myself. Parkerized finishes are great for painting over. I think that is right. If I am wrong, somebody please, clue me.

My gun was painted, and I chose to repaint the whole gun. So I took off whatever WLA used. That stuff is not PJ1, but it's good enough. Zip-Strip paint remover takes it off really fast and easy.

You don't have to do it the way I did. Mr. Andrewski does his differently. I like the way mine is, but I am one of those girls who just has to be different. You know how we are.

I masked the selector marks, with little round pieces of masking tape, that I made.

I put 5 layers of masking tape across the circumference of cheap barrel type ink pen. Then I trimmed off the excess tape, with an x-acto blade, leaving five round pieces of tape of the correct size, stuck onto the end of that pen barrel there. Then I separated the layers with an x-acto blade. I made 5 layers, and it was a good thing I did. I ruined the first two. The sticky little buggers.

I read a tutorial on Arf.com, some months back, about how to color indented selector marks. I looked for it again, but I could not find it for you. It's easy though, and I will be happy to tell you how to do it.

I used Testors model paint. Our local 'non corporate chain' hardware store had it. I found plain red to be too dark. So I used red orange. You need white also, and a tiny little bottle of Testors paint thinner.

I used a jar lid, to thin down the paint in. It needs to be, really really thin, so it will flow both easily and evenly.

Using scissors I trimmed most of the brushes off, at the very tip, from a tiny model brush. You just need 2 or 3 brush hairs.

Prepare the surface, with alcohol, to remove all oil etc. Then carefully place that tiny, well trimmed, brush tip down into the stamped recesses .,.. S ... R .... A ..., and let a tiny amount of paint flow into the recess. I found that doing several coats prevented me from overflowing the paint onto the surrounding metal. Practice first, on something. Or you may have to feel like big dummy, as I did , when you wipe off the excess from the fire control mount area.

The texture is similar to medium fine sand paper. I like it myself. Makes it very nonslip.

I hope that helps you, edelweiss, and good luck with your gun makeover.

Well, I actually find the s/a Sterling mighty interesting. However, we don't have them overhere. Very difficult and even more costly to import them to the Netherlands. On top of that: no full auto guns in private hands in this country. I don't travel twice a year to the States for nothing

On top of that, and I forgot to mention that in my previous post, only people practicing IPSC Rifle or DSR (Dynamic Service Rifle) are allowed to have carbines shooting pistol calibers overhere. So it's only a small group that is allowed to have these, even a smaller group interested in having them.

Those two tips would have helped me when I added red and white selector highlights to a couple of rifles. My biggest mistake was not thinning the paint.

Even though the paint I used was fire engine red, it didn't "pop" the way I though it should. I'll try red orange next time.

Thanks for the good tips!

People aren't even interested? Wow. How quickly is history forgotten. That alone tells you they are going to repeat it.

You are so welcome, Vegas. I read a tutorial on it, and it sure was helpful to me. If you thin it enough, all you have to do is touch the brush tip into the stamping and it flows right in. No need to try to 'paint it in' at all.

I hope your health continues to improve. You are in my prayers. I highly recommend that you start taking Vitamin D3 also. Get the 2000 IU gelcap or liquigels at the drug store. Take 1 with each meal. You will be absolutely amazed at how much D3 helps.

Thank you, for stopping by, Vegas.

Huh? Not sure what you mean here.

We have about 40,000 competition shooters in the Netherlands and about the same amount in hunters (and some are both so it doesn't add up to 80,000). Those two groups are the only civilians allowed to have firearms. Now if you consider that about 400 are allowed to own pistol caliber shooting carbines, and that most of those prefer to shoot these competitions with rifle caliber rifles and carbines, you can imagine that the group owning and shooting pistol caliber carbines is small.

Yeah, the paint didn't exactly flow into the markings and I took my time...

THANKS! Sounds like you've been reading some old posts.

I had surgery well over a year ago and I haven't felt this good in many years. I honestly didn't know how bad I felt until I was cured. I only wish I'd received a correct diagnosis years earlier. I find it amazing that such a small thing can make you feel so bad and I suffered from almost every symptom. Fortunately the osteoporosis I suffer from is reversable.

Yep, I read for a long time before registering and posting here. I have learned a lot from you guys. I have used the search engine a lot too. The archives are a real treasure also. Lots of knowledge in there.

I am glad to hear you are doing so good now.

Try that vitamin D3, Vegas, and you will feel even better. I was once very skeptical too.
