I thought I would post this quick update.
We received our sample STEN MKIII back from BATFE-FTB along with our "formal" letters of determination. Turns out that we CAN build semi-auto MKIII STEN's only. The FTB will not allow us to use this letter for MKII or MKV STEN builds. For that we have to submit samples of each gun. |

Yeah I really want to get mine done and sometime in the future (soon) and really if the price on the site is what it cost for them to build it well we cant build it that cheap.
I.O. semi auto parts and tube is the price they are offering a full working gun for. Im good to go with a working gun and not semi auto parts and me do the work. Wise Light Arms you got my vote and will be getting my money. |

We are still updating the web page with STEN build info::
http://wlawarehouse.com/store_front/sten-build-service/ And hope to have more images up this weekend. We have determined that the MKIII kits with cut off fire control housings (no tabs remain) are not buildable. There is no decent way to attach the cover/housing to the receiver tube. |

The website will be updated with images when we have them and the webmaster has time to make the changes! Right now getting firearms out the door is consuming everyones available work hours. Basically it boils down to this, if the "tabs" were cut off your fire control parts housing (when it was removed from the receiver tube) then there is no way to attach that part to the new semi-auto receiver tube. |

I have a beautiful MK.III parts kit with tabs intact. I had the kit cleaned up a few years back, with all goop, paint, and scrap/cut metal removed. Then kit was bead blasted. Is this kit a good candidate for the semi build service? Web site states:" The original receiver section must be in tact up to, or very near, the original charging handle slot. If it is shorter than this, we will not be able to perform the necessary modifications for our receiver" I interpret that to mean cut tube still needs to be intact, along with tabs, for you guys to do your build? If cleaned up kit is good enough, I will be sending in a second one for the build service. |

We now have images of a buildable STEN MKIII kit posted on the web site. That may help with your question about how your part set should appear::

Why not weld the front of the trigger housing to the tube ? the welding is completely hidden by the dust cover. This is just as strong if not stronger than the spot welds that originally held the receiver to the tabs. I never weld the tabs when they are complete, just the front and rear end of the receiver, this keeps the build looking nice and tidy. |

I placed an order last weekend for a Sten MK III semi build. How long did it take to get your confirmation email and address to ship the kit? Thanks, SB |

I got a reply right away
I got a reply either that day or the next day. I have had 2 different people email me with updates when they got my FFL and the my MK III parts kit. I think mine is # 4 in line. They said they may be a couple of months making sure the bugs are worked out so we get quality firearms.
They don't charge your card until they build the gun but it says they will cancell the order if they don't get your kit in 2 weeks of the order. The address is on the website. Hope that helps. |

I ordered the Sten Build Service on the 25th of Jan, mailed parts kit on 28 Jan, It was delivered on 1 Feb (I used tracking, - Or I wouldn't have known when it was delivered? I didn't receive any info from Wise Lite) Since then nothing. How do you find out what # your build was? Did they tell you? I'm usually very laid back, and not in any kind of hurry. Last AK build I dealt with took almost a year, and I really didn't care, as long as there was a little bit of communication from the builder. |

I don't have specific dates, but I sent my kit in which included a hand written note that they should have my FFL's info on file because they have sent to him before. I got a call the day after they received my package to let me know they didn't have my FFL's info. I told them who had dealt with the previous shipment and to please look into a bit more. They said they'd call if they couldn't find my FFL's info. I haven't heard back from them...assuming that's good. They did say it would be a month to a month-and-a-half before starting the builds. They did not say what number I was and I didn't ask. I'd give them a call and just make sure things are gtg. I've found that they've always been really nice to deal with. Good luck. HTH. |

I have a feeling these guys got swamped pretty quickly after they announced the new build service. That's why I jumped on it as soon as I could. I ran into this situation with an amazing AK builder back in 2007. At first this guy had turn around times of less than a month, then it turned into a big mess. Great builder, but pretty much a 2 person shop, so it bogged down significantly. They can take all the time they want to work out any bugs if they are still sorting things out.
My only issue is I want to get the Form 1 paperwork in as quickly as possible, my last approval took 137 days. (2009) Previous Form 1 took 88 days for approval (2008). I hope its not worse now, heheh. I absolutely hate bugging builders with things are like this, but I'm thinking of emailing them to see if I can get any info on what serial number they may use, if in fact they are going to put their own serial number on the parts kit I sent? If I had that info, I could fire off the Form 1 this week. Last edited by glhx2112 : 02-20-2010 at 11:36 AM. |
