Hey Bluejack, I just picked up one of these myself but have not been able to fire it yet. I have a Wiselite PPSH41 which runs good on S@B and Privi Partisan. I had some Ugo which seemed to have hard primers and didnt cook off some times, also i had bought some Bulgarian surplus from sportsmans guide and it works well in my TT-33 Pistol but is to dirty and underpowered to cycle the PPSH. I still have a **** load of it and i hope it works in the sterling. Unfortuantly it looks like 7.62 Tok surplus is drying up. Hope that helps a little.

Does it use plain Sten mags or are they somehow converted?

If you look closely at the mag you can see the red markings 7.62X25 on a piece of flat metal added to the mag, we figured they cut out the rib and welded that piece of metal on because of the longer cartridge. Long story short, yes they are converted, if you have Sten mags they will modify them for you for a fee.

What kind of quality do those wiselite converted magazines you received have?

Do they look like they are well put together? I ask, because not long ago some said, that those from other sources looked like they had been cheaply cobbled together.

I have 2 of their mags and they're very nice. No complaints and they run 100% in full auto (Sten).

Thanks, yeah I saw the red markings but I wasnt sure if the manufacturer did that or the poster marked his mags to keep them seperate. I didnt THINK regular STEN mags were long enough.

I had the same hard primer issues in both my Romanian TT-33 and Yugo M-57 using the 1980s production Yugo ammo. A couple of guys here in town are running the Yugo in their 7.62x25 DI M-16 uppers with great success. I've got designs on one of those uppers for my '16 so the crate or Yugo I bought won't go to waste.

I didn't know that SG had Bulgarian 7.62x25, but I did buy a crate of their Polish ammo and I've had no problems with hard primers in the pair of pistols. It's 1950s production and HOT. It has the typical brass case splitting issues from the stab crimp that Polish ammo is known for, but I've never seen anyone have issues with it in either the pistols or full auto PPSh-41, PPS-43, or the M-16 conversion.

I also purchased about 500 rounds of Wolf and S&B ammo from a local guy who got rid of his TT-33 for almost the same price as the surplus 7.62x25. I haven't shot the Wolf ammo yet, but the S&B is plenty hot and has no hard primer issues. I shoot two Vintage Military Rifle matches that require six shots with a vintage pistol. It's nice not having to clean the pistol after six rounds and then shoot six more the following weekend.

The mod to mag is crude, but it works.

The big heavy bolt actually makes the Mk6 Sterling better suited to the Tok ammo than the converted PPSh-41 semi-carbine.

All it takes is a strong spring, 7.62 barrel, and the mags to feed it. Pretty simple.

Thanks O_B.

I have been thinking of getting a 7.62 barrel and the heavier spring for my Sterling. The mag question was all that has been holding me back.

Now that helps allot. Thank you Traveler.

By the way I redid my Sterling again, and it turned out even better this time. Now I am finally satisfied with it. After it finishes curing I will post pics.

There has to be a way to modify Sterling mags for tokarev ammo.

Has anybody tried?

Open Bolts posted a picture of a very nice looking MP28 mag that was fused with PPSh-41 mag. See post 4 in this thread. You might be able to do something like it by fusing the feed lips from a STEN mag to a PPSh-41 mag.

Thanks Traveler. I really want those Sterling roller mags though. If I can come up with the money, for parts to tear up and experiment with, I will figure out how to build them.
