Sten mag well placement.

You guys that have Rebuilt or built post samples.

Whats the best way to get it right??

I'm using a reduced Diameter tube w/semi bolt.
This is the most critical part (why most semi stens dont work)

Those tubes are quite thick and the ears tend to crack if you try to bend them out. One technique is to cut a hole and not bend the ears out. Then leave the 'scrap' ears on the mag well and weld them to the tube.

Some people do the "H" cut and bend the ears out. Then weld where it cracks. Each to their own.

Put the bolt in the tube and a mag in the mag well before you tack weld it. Shim with aluminized tape if you need to. Make sure the bold mooves freely and chambers rounds before you finish welding.

It's a good idea to use a heat sink when you do the final welds. A tailpipe expander with the o-rings removed and some copper makes a good backer and heat sink.

TIG is best, but you can use MIG. It's very easy to warp the tube, so weld a bit, then let it cool down before you weld more.

I wouldn't heat treat the striker, as they tend to crack.

If you hit a snag, there are a bunch of folks on Weapons Guild who have built semi Mk-III STENs and will help you.

Good luck with your build
