The bayonet has a metal tube at the front which acts as a stop for the R4/5 flash hider. Yea, it has a heat shield. Unfortunately I don't know what the numer indicates - it is stamped on the clip, so perhaps plausible that it is specific to the clip being added.

Just thought you guys may enjoy some pics of my original South African R4/5 bayonet. I'm only aware of two others in civilian hands. It is believed that a 1000 of these were made and 900 accepted, but thus far nobody knows where they are apart from a handful believed to be owned by collectors...

They are like hen's teeth at present. We use to get the SADF ones for about $20-$30 in used but still good condition. I now often see them on Gunbroker for north of $100.

The only ones I have are in my LM5 and Galil. The pic above is just to show what Nobleteq sells, which are the Denel made tubes.

Lou, right now Nobleteq is "in theory" the only way to get parts from Denel, but they don't have stock. Of course, there are guys that have parts, some ex SADF members that have parts from their national service days while others may have extra parts they stocked up for their own use. One thing...
