Quick review of my prototype 22lr kit in a Lage Max-11a1/15 upper. The upper is utilizing a modified SS CMMG 22lr kit. The kit is also weighted a little with tungsten rod. This kit was engineered by a Member here on Uzitalk and then refined by myself. It uses readily available, reliable and cheap S&W 15/22 mags, Black dog drums and stick mags. Although the S&W mags are more reliable and robust! I have ran over 3300 rounds of every 22lr ammo imaginable at its 99% reliable. Next test is to see if it will run the 770fps stuff. Testing reveals that it runs 1450-1600rof depending on ammo choice. All in all this is the best most reliable FA 22 I ever owned. Super comfortable to handle and robust! An extreme thank you to that UT member who made most of this possible. Here is a short video with a few different ammos. Sorry for the background noise. Enjoy.

By the looks of it, it looks like a dedicated CMMG bolt and barrel. Is that correct?

If memory serves me right, this concept was tried a number of years ago, but didn't go anywhere. I believe the reason being is that, while support hand positioning is okay when stick mags are used, for many shooters when a .22LR drum magazine is used the support hand can't be comfortably positioned because of the 'feed tower' on the drum puts the body of the drum down and in the way. Harambe is dead.
MHO, YMMV, etc.
ETA: If you stop the video at 1:18, you'll note that if a BDM AR .22 drum was installed, the support hand and arm would be at an awkward, 'chicken wing' position.

You got me at chicken wing. That sounds yummy right now. Wet garlic are the best. MHO, ymmv, etc. side note I’m not a drum fan. I like the stick mags better. Yeah they run out fast but reloading mags help keep the ammo costs down.

It would be my preference for someone to re-introduce the Shea/Fleming pattern "MAC" platform .22LR upper. Perhaps with a 3D printed polymer body and steel inserts at the critical areas to reduce weight and cost.
I have a Fleming/Sub-Cal .22 upper (used on a M11-380) and the ROF with CCI AR-Tactical ammo came in at 985-988 RPM.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

Wasn't the user 2nd amend mentioned called doggone or something like that who had a working prototype? He posted videos of his upper working and then disappeared off the face of the earth.

l do hope the plans for this are released for people who want to tinker with it
