I just sold my Colt Delta Elite 10mm with the intention of buying a Glock Model 20 to replace it. The 20 was going to be used to hunt hogs and for protection. Then I started looking at the ballistics charts and the .40 S&W and 10mm factory loads are not that far apart. To complicate this I already have a Glock 35 and I have also considered the baby Glock 27 to complement my 35. The Model 20 is a cannon which I like and the 27 would be of good use for concealed carry plus uses the same ammunition as the 35. 10mm ammo is not getting any cheaper plus fails the Wal-Mart test. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Click on ammo for 10mm. This guy has a great selection of high-grade ammo at very reasonable prices. In addition, he loads 10mm the way it was meant to be..hot!

For further info on doubletap, check out the "10-ring" on Glocktalk, or the 10mmtalk forum. Doubletap has a great reputation.

Amongst his offerings are Gold Dot, Golden Saber, Nosler Ballistic, hard cast, FMJ, XTP and a great little load that combines a 135 grain Nosler Ballistic tip with a 40. caliber lead ball behind it.

Besides all of that, I really like the G20; I used to carry it as a duty gun. An interesting variation on the G20 is to get a .40 caliber barrel for it; it will run 100% in this manner, and give you greater control and accuracy with the extra frame, barrel, and slide mass.

+1 on the 10mm Glock as long as you have large hands. Don't believe the hype about the recoil on the 20 being too much to handle. It's a real pussycat. I really wish the 10mm would make a comeback in a big way, maybe the ammo prices would come down.

I have a Glock model 20 and was surprised at what little recoil it had. It was much like a 40 cal and less than a .45 ACP. My hands are not particularly large and it fits my hands well. Mine is an older second generation model that has no finger grooves. The only problem with 10mm ammo is that it is fairly expensive and most places do not carry it in stock. Take for example, Wal Mart. 18.00 for 50 rounds is pricey. I may start reloading it in the near future.

If Glock would make a "Slim" 10mm w/10rd inline mags, I feel it would be a great seller. I too don't have large hands, so a slim 10mm Glock would be perfect.

I know, not going to happen any time soon.

I've got a G21 45ACP, same frame as the G20 and I dont have big hands but I like the big framed glocks, it's what makes them feel so smooth and handle recoil so well, it spreads the force out in a wider area of your grip.
One of these days I will get a G20 and just reload for it to keep ammo cost's down.

You will love the G27 if you get one, mine is with me every day and is a very accurate little shooter.

What factory loads are you looking at? All the good stuff I've checked out is hotter than short&weak, you can get heavier bullets, and if you go to Doubletap he has all sorts of different loads. The beauty of the 10mm is in it's versatility. Lightweight plinker to excess of 357 magnum. If you don't reload, you miss some of the advantages. The 10 does fail the Wal-Mart test, but so does my 338-378 and I'm not parting with that either.

I've clocked Federal 180 gr. Hydrashocks out of a a 10mm G29 and a .40 G23 (the two have similar barrel lengths) and it seems they were within 40 fps of eachother.
Horniday's "premium" brand (I forget the name) and Win Silvertips were both hotter than any factory .40 I've tried, but neither were top end loads either. Like others have said, you need to go to Georgia Arms or Doubletap for "real" 10mm loads.
