I made a set of spot welding tongs. Made all the mags I need, if any of you do-it-yourself guys want to burrow the spot welder to make your own I can loan it out. (I'm not making mags and selling them so please don't ask)

Buy USA 10 rounders and preferably non ribbed back AK 7.62 mags (Chinese non ribbed)

Cut the AK mags, grind the shallow ribs on each side of the AK mag so the USA slides on easily, flatten out the bottom plate tabs on the USA mags, and spot weld together. I re use the AK follower but they have to be cut/ground so they work correctly.

Bottom tong doesn't have a rubber sleeve on it in the pic, you need one so no current is allowed to travel except for the area by the upper tong tip.

Joe,
I use the same USA AR mags.but find the USA SKS mags work better that the AK mags. The SKS mags have spot welds like the ones you show. Instead of cutting off the tops of the AK mags. I just grind the spot welds on the SKS mags. Try it , you will like it.

Awesome.

I use a 7 1/2" fiber reinforced abrasive cut off wheel in a surface grinder. It takes 10-15 seconds to cut the mag.

IIRC, I purchased 30 of them from here after Sept last year. I don't see any now. :(
