I went shooting yesterday and took the KAC-556F out for the first time.

I discovered my KAC-556F does not like Wolf. It is either underpowered and not cycling the bolt back fully on full auto or the steel cases are rubbing against the magazine causing them to not feed fast enough for FA. The bolt would close on a empty chamber.

In semi it worked great with Wolf.

This sucks because I have a ton of this stuff.

I then ran some brass cased stuff through it and it ran flawlessly.

I then took the KAC-556F and installed the 22lr conversion. We probably put about 600-700 rounds of 22lr through.

I still have some teething problems to work out though.

The blackdog magazines seem to have weak springs. On several of the magazines we would load them and they would not have enough pressure to bring the ammo up to the feed lips. And the magazines were not even fully loaded.

We found one magazine that worked decent.

The 22lr conversion I have is really old and worn out. It is so worn the charging handle barely even holds onto the bolt (the bolt is really worn).

The original stock metal magazine so worn out it would not feed at all. I may be able to fix it though by adjusting hte feed lips.

Problems we had:
1. Bolt would close on round hammer down with no primer strike. I may need a new recoil spring for the conversion.

2. FTF...round would get hung up trying to go into chamber. Not sure why this would happen. Would usually happen on first round of magazine. This may be related to a weak 22 conversion spring...it would only push the round in half way.

3. Stovepipes...maybe a weak ejector spring and worn out ejector? BTW when I had the problem with a round being chambered but not going off I would try closing the bolt and pulling it back to get the round to eject but the extractor just did not seem to get enough grip to pull it out.

Here is a video....probably put about 700 rounds of 22lr down range with it. We used 4 or 5 types of ammo to test it. I maybe got 4 or so magazine dumps with no problems.

My AC doesnt like Wolf - it would stick cases in the chamber and skip a round every once and a while. Runs brass like a champ, no more wolf for my AC, I will be shooting those up in my ARs. Some folks run Wolf no problem, others have similar problems like you and I -

Never tried any wolf in my AC, because I figure that russian ammo should be used in a russian gun.

My suggestion is to get a sling for your AC. Use it under your elbow, with your support hand keeping it tight while gripping your stock.

Stop holding the magazine, that can cause problems. With proper sling technique, your AC will not be moving around, even with a full mag dump.

My BD mag. will not run as well as yours. My Cieners work the best.

Yea I do need to get a sling.

The people shooting it with the hand on the magazine have never shot a FA before. I forgot to explain to them they should not keep a hand on the magazine.

I am the one with the brown jacket and if you notice I am in control of it even during the magazine dumps and I do not hold it near the magazine. It was the FA noobs that had some issues with the muzzle climb using the 3 round burst....

Yea they are factory magazines.

Good video, looks like you guys had fun! Your video with the younger guy shooting .223 shows why I do not like the three round burst. he had good enough trigger control to get two shots off, then was suprised by a single the next time. I usually start folks out on three round, though.

My .22 kit was old, but unopened when i got it, and the charging handle sometimes slips off the bolt as well. I think that Black Dog is making spare parts for the conversions, maybe he has a new extractor for you.

My AC-556 and both ARs (Colt AR-15A3 and Rock River lower with surplus M16A1 and M16A2 uppers) shoot Wolf Military Classic ($199/k from Wideners) fine, but have issues with Wolf Black Box Ammo. I contacted Wolf, and they sent me prepaid mailers for the Black Box, and replaced it with Military Classic. The older lots had a red primer sealer that got into my bolts and took a little time to clean out, but the last lot I bought didn't have any primer sealer. I bought my .22 kit new from Black Dog, and Kevin included 3 magazines with it. 2 of the 3 work perfectly. My Ciener magazines have feed issues, and my charging handle will slip off the bolt if I'm not careful.

You might check the inside of the BD mags where the followers travel for any flashing or glue from the mags being assembled. Clear any of that out and use a utility knife to remove the flashing from the followers and your reliability will go up. I did this with all of my older Uzi mag sand it made a difference.
