I'm considering my first MG and the AC-556 is at the top of my list.

Questions are pretty basic:
1) what should I look for or ask when looking for one
2) These appear to be pretty durable (exception being the selector switch during disassemy/reassembly) Any other "weak" design issues?
3) what is the current market range (I haven't narrowed down blue/stainless or folder option)
4) any good places that may have one for sale

Lastly, are the .22lr conversion kits still available. I've searched but not found any yet.

Thanks in a advance for any/all input.

1) You should look for a 191 series stainless folder with a 13 inch barrel.
2) One style of folding stock has a tad more beef but either will work.
3) market price is $ 10,000.
4) David Spiwak
5) Manly Men consider 22lr through this weapon a violation.

I was always kind of fond of the blued stuff. Much prettier than that stainless stuff. :) I have a blue folder for sale I just put online. Here is a pic.

To expand on "what to look for"

Is there a reason to search for a 191 series? Also anything in particular from a wear perspective that should be considered? Other than the need to wear a skirt with a .22lr conversion are there any negatives/wear issues with doing this?

I am waiting on my stainless folder to get approved so I can pick it up, could literally be any day now. I have read that the rate of fire is crazy with the 22 conversion, but I would like to pick one up sometime. I don't have a lot to add other than I think they still seem to be a "good deal" in the 223 NFA world, if someone can actually say that about a $10k rifle. Good luck with your search!

The one from okgunrunner looks very nice and the price seems very reasonable for anything trustworth out there. I will probably get a SCAR stock for mine also, just to keep the wood folder in perfect shape. I had Wilson Combat re-thread one of their suppressor-ready flash hiders with the AC556 threads so that I can try out my Wilson suppressor on the Ruger, although I don't know how often I will run it that way.

A 191 series is better than a 190 series because the 190 series, just like the 180 series Mini-14, was abandoned after about a year off the top of my head. The 191 series transferable guns and the 192 series restricted post-sample guns are identical in design. Just like any 22lr kit fired through a .223/5.56mm barrel, cleaning the barrel is recommended after use.
