While working on my AC556 book project I came across several rumors that some AC-556s may have been supplied to Rhodesia mercs.

Well I finally came across an actual photo that could lend some creditability to this story. Check the guy in the back row, that looks like a AC556 or at the very least a Mini-14 to me.

Early Ruger (1979-1980) AC-556 literature also refers to it as the "Ruger Infantry Rifle". If only I could get a really clear pic...

looks like a sidefolder. guy in the front row (center) appears to have one too.

Those pics are from an SOF issue back in 1979 I think. "I still have it somewhere" The article was titled SOF's first and probably last Rhodesian firefight.

Gotta love the 1970's "mercs." Can't really tell if they are pig hunting, goose hunting, Airsofters, or a combat patrol.

Those front sights don't appear to be birdcage flash hiders but rather those seen on standard Mini 14/30 barrels.

Those look to be full stocked Mini's. SOF was not exactly the best source of information, 12/80 issue I have that features a review of the AC556K repeatedly misidentifies pictures of Mini's and GB's for AC's. The article states that the folding stock was first introduced in 1976, may or may not be accurate.
