Picked up a few of these since they are usually scarce and expensive. They are definitely different than the sight on my factory AC556K, but they might be factory Ruger and just an older casting. The differences that I noticed were the slight difference in height as the replacement is a little lower and has a different profile. It is also slightly thinner at the top of the blade and at the base compared to my factory sight. Still pretty close and a smoking buy @ $20.55.

To my eye, that looks significantly lower....as in 4-6 feet high at 100 yards.

I could be wrong.

I'll measure it later and let you know the difference. My rear sight is at the max height now so a lower front would work for me, as I could drop the rear down some and keep it from falling off. I may blue it and swap them out.

OK. The sight on my ac556k is .8" high above the top of the barrel. The replacement sight is .71" above the top of the barrel. That's a difference of .09" Using a sight radius of 14.5" a change in front sight height of .09" (reduction) should result in a change in point of impact of roughly 22.34" (high) at 100 yards. I have roughly .08 more that I can drop the rear sight before it bottoms out. That leaves .01 left over which results in impact being roughly 2.48" high at 100 yards. That can probably be adjusted with ammo selection. I am going to swap the front sight and zero at 50 and 100 yards and see how close I can get it with some different ammo. Stay tuned. It will be a while before I get a chance to sight it in.

INteresting. Let us know what happens. :)

The new sight blade also looks narrower, which seems to me like that'd be a good thing. Always thought the front blade is too wide anyway.

I still am going to grab one for my parts barrel.

that to me looks like an older front site as the earlier ones were more slanted and were not a squared off at the top. At least that is how I understand it. My 1981 AC556F and 83 mini 14 front sites look like that.

that's what I thought!

I think I'm going to order an UltiMak for mine anyways, so the front sight won't even be usable...

yeah that really bugs the crap out of me.

some "picklesmoocher" probobly bought 50 of the darn things and cleaned them out and now he is going to sell them for 200 bucks a pop on eBay like you see them from time to time. Last week some guy had another one on eBay and was asking 250.

total BS.....

I am calling them today to see why they are out so quick and when they are getting more in. Not like the lady will know but I am still asking out of principal.

I'll bet you are right. Its the good, bad and ugly side of capitalism.

Hopefully no one will buy them, he'll eventually get tired of carrying them, and they'll end up back with some parts wholesaler at a reasonable price.

your right cultist

lets keep our eyes peeled on eBay and we should be able to spot them because they have the rounded top with smaller profile.

I bought 2 of them. I got an email confirmation, but don't know if they shipped yet. I only need one for my parts kit. I'll sell you the other one for the same price as Numrich's. I'll PM you when they come in and we will figure out what the shipping costs are.

Roger

PS: it was shipped on 11/4 USPS

Great Weapon

I work over in Iraq doing contract security work, and we carry M-4 and Glocks of course. They just seem to get boring after a while. Sure injoy the older stuff like the AC. Went to gun parts the sight sold that quick. thanks for the info.:mg

stay tuned

Cool - let me know, I wouldn't mind having one for my parts kit as well.

Those sights are old aftermarket ones made by Briklee (now defunct). They obviously are different than the AC originals. I am thinking about getting a some made by CNC machining like the original, but I lack an one to verify measurements. Like CLC, I don't understand how the heights can be so far off. Waiting on his report. My interest is AC556k Clone using a Mini-14 with a shortened barrel. Does anybody know if the rear sights are different between the AC556k and a Mini (Ranch sights excluded), this may explain the different front sight heights. CNC is very expensive and I want to get it right. Any one else interested in a group buy? This is what I got drawn so far.
