AK 101 question

Good evening,

If you are to build up an AK-101 from parts, would you use a traditional AKM receiver? Are the 7.62x39 magazine well dimensions used for the 101 magazine?

No, its an AK74 sized magazine.

There was never a "standard" 5.56 model, they were all developed independently.

Some use AK47 sized magazines like the Galil, Yugos, Romanians, Hungarian, etc.. Others use 74.

Better off finding a Saiga in 5.56, it will be much cheaper and most of the work is already done.

I wonder if all the modern AKs internal components i.e. the trunnions can swop out?
