Hello all,
I just picked up a new, semi-automatic, Russian AK-47. It's the Red Classic, Saiga from Izhmash through Atlantic Firearms; the one with the red stained wood furniture.
I'm being specific because I know little about the different variants.
I'm right-handed. When I grip the rifle's pistol grip in my right hand and wrap my finger around to pull the trigger, there is this little, spring-loaded tab that protrudes downward from the receiver, resting right by the inside of my second finger joint from the finger tip. It digs into my finger and I hate it.
I disassembled my rifle and looked at it from the inside. It is a part of a sheet-metal lever that is attached to/appears to pivot on the rod around which the piano-wire for the trigger is wrapped. I can push the little tab about half of its protruding size into the receiver, and the spring tension it is under pushes it back out when I let go. I cannot tell what it is for.
I'm wondering what is this tab for, what is its purpose?
Thank you!
