I have a NIB select fire Polytech w/fixed stock. I would like to know if anyone can tell me if a conversion from .223 to 7.62 X 39 would make the rifle worth more. The machine gun price guide doesn't make a distinction for caliber.
I have more Poly mags in 7.62 than ones in .223 and can't buy more due to CT law. I also like the look of a more curved mag.
Any other info would be appreciated: Cost of conversion, qualified Cl III gunsmiths for conversion, etc. Also if receiver will be restamped with the new caliber. Thanks in advance.

Why waltz when you can rock and roll?

Short answer? NO NO NO!!!
1)Unlike an AR, changing barrels in an AK is MAJOR work!
2)You would also need a new bolt.
3) GET THE F*¢K OUT OF CT! BEFORE THEY CONFISCATE YOUR AK!!!

Agree with doc, have helped build several AKs, no walk in the park, don't fix what's not broke.

You can change your AK caliber. There are several Class 2 Mfg that do this work. What type of AK do you want? calibers- 7.62 or 5.45, models- AK-74 , AKM , AKS-74U , RPK-74? They can build just about anything you want.

If it runs and you have enough mags I'd leave it. Was it Norinco or Polytech that used the funky mags in .223?

If you are leaving it NIB, while the x39 variants are more desirable, I don't think there is ROI in changing one over.

If you search, you can probably find someone who would gladly swap a few mags, or maybe MGs!!!
