That is my question. Why does it sit so far forward? What do you need the space for? The bolt action movement?

Been there, done that with the AM-15 and M-16.
Search the M-16 forum for more details. While I won’t be one of the early adopters for this upper, I wish Craig well.

I stated earlier in this thread, that I had been on the wait list for over a year for the M16 version. Well, last week I got a call and my upper is in the mail. I knew that it required you to swap out fire control components to switch to open bolt, but disappointed that I can't leave the parts in and run open bolt in 5.56. Unfortunately it is getting too hot to go out and play with this so it may be fall before I get to check out the new upper.

Performance of the M16 version will greatly influence my decision to get on a wait list for MAC version. No need for both, but like others on this site, I tend to collect different uppers for MACs. Have several that have never been shot just due to lack of time.

Because the AM15 uses a fixed firing pin there is no auto trip to release the hammer for firing in 5.56. I suspect if you got an auto trip, and sear and hammer from a LMG, they would not function in the AM15 so I would still have to swap fire control groups.

I got a new AM15 about week go and finally had a chance to fire it today. It ran almost flawlessly right out of the box. I had one failure with a fully loaded 165 round drum. It will be interested to see if the M11/nine version runs as well.

The AR AM15 uses the same fire control parts as the Colt LMG except the sear doesn’t have the hammer release lever. If you swap the sear with a correct LMG sear, and have a LMG bolt, you can fire open bolt with a 556 upper.

Mac 10 too! Don’t forget!

Don’t forget the Mac 10/45 legacy gun as well!! That market is completely open. I buy any and every upper that comes out - specifically to keep them coming.

We don’t have a slow fire bolt. Or a 22lr kit.

Great to see more options!
Agree totally about needing more for the Mac 10.

The M11a1 crowd would also like some badly needed attention.

Let's get this done!!!

Here is my rendition of what I think it may look like. Does anyone know a timeline for this. This upper is the reason why I got into the mac world, and it feels like this is slipping away again.

It is my understanding that a similar upper was submitted and was determined to be a firearm. How or why it was determined to be a firearm, I don't know. I have not seem the determination letter. Nor do I know when the most resent upper was sent for a determination. It takes approximately 120 from receipt of the FTB to render a determination. For all I know the post was made the day the upper was sent off. So I would think before getting disparate, wait the 120 days. As with all things NFA, patience is very helpful. YMMV.

That's a pretty long barrel. Are you trying to show what it would look like as a SAP? I would think most people are going to want the MG version with a short barrel.

Personally, the only updates that came be are "We received a determination letter from the FTB and we can move forward with marketing our design. We plan to ..." Or they will post "We received a determination letter from the FTB and we can not move forward with with the design we submitted. We plan to go back to the drawing board..." It makes no sense to further develop a design that has not had a determination for the basic design. I'm sure if it is the first one, it will be all over the gun boards.

Personally, I think it is foolish to say anything if the design has not had a FTB determination. Why get customers all worked up about something that the manufacturer doesn't know that they can ever deliver? I'd imagine they have been inundated with inquires about what is going on. Once the design has had a positive determination, then it is up to the business owner to decide to make the design public or wait until that there is a product to sell. If he had posted when the upper was sent then there would be a four month wait. YMMV.

First I heard of it was on arfcom a few weeks back and remember TI saying do not call and ask about it so I have not. I really hope they get a approval letter. I have considered a AM180 as a second MG but with the upper POSSIBLY coming out it has me holding off. I am sure it would be 1-2 years before we see one if its approved.

Anybody heard any updates on this? I was just on the Tactical Innovations website and it looks like they updated several part descriptions as being compatible with the AM15/AM11. Sounds promising... or maybe just optimistic.
