And here I was...thinking of forwarding this to Peter L. and now just read of the case against him. So much for that source of knowledge being tapped.

If it is Sterling, I think it would have to be for a Mark 7 pistol and accessories.

Well, whatever it may be for will remain a mystery to me. Someone may know as there's a bid on it. I suspected just what you've stated Lima and asked if he thought as much and to my surprise he had a Mk7 dewat and sent these...

Never seen that metal box before. Maybe something for the Rover Sterling car? It’s too small to be a Mk5 armor’s tool kit and they are made of wood.

Do you have a Nikko-Sterling scope? That’s the only Sterling thing I can think of that might fit in those brackets.

On thinking about it... if it was actually made by Sterling, the brass plate would be the logo with the box around it. If it was military, I would expect it would have the military designation like L34A1 or NATO number not 'Sterling'

One would think that, but it’s not always the case. For example, the Mk5 / L34A1 armor’s tool kit doesn’t have the boxed Sterling logo. It just has a small aluminum plate engraved with “STERLING S.5 ARMOURERS KIT”
