Been shooting M16s abunch the last few weeks and got kinda a renewed interest in them. Well anyway Bushmaster has a drop in piston conversion that uses standard barrels which is a huge plus for me. Has anyone tried it yet? Probably use it on a 10.5 or 11.5 upper because those are my favorite lengths. Thanks again

For comparison purposes, LWRC's piston produces a noticeably sharper recoil than a DI upper.

The Bushmaster is essentially a slightly modified ARES piston conversion now being produced by Bushmaster so that ARES can focus their attention on the SHRIKE..... :roflmao

I was prepared for this piston driven upper to have a sharper recoil as compared to a D.I. upper but I attribute the smoothness to the MGI buffer. I don't know that for a fact, but I'm really liking these buffers and will be buying one for my own gun based on my experience with this upper buffer combo.

I've shot Brother Evil's DIAS M16 as well as his Colt factory M16 and both are just incredibly smooth when equipped with the MGI buffer. Even his 7.62X39 upper is a dream to shoot with this buffer. I've been very pleased with my AAC rate reducing buffer and it runs all uppers from my 7" to 20" and 9mm too, all without a hitch. There's just a lot to like about this buffer IMHO.

I have had it for a year and 1/2 now. I bought it from Ares. It runs 100% and I am pleased with it. it does slow ROF a little though.

The Bushmaster piston upper that I just bought has a very similar B/C to the Ares piston conversion that I bought about a month ago. The only difference I can see in the B/Cs is that Ares is squared off on the back side of where the op-rod pushes and the Bushmaster is angled at about a 45 degrees. Also the groove on the bottom side that are made for mag clearance end a little differently. But the activation system is definitely different. The Ares kit has a "spigot" with a return spring on the op-rod. The Bushmaster system has a plug that is removed out the muzzle end of the FSB. The piston and op-rod come out through the FSB. There is a tube that is TIG welded to the breech end of the FSB. I cleaned the upper for the first time today. "Vegas" and I noticed that the upper seemed to shoot very smoothly. Neither of us noticed that the muzzle had an Izzy brake on it. I thought it had a Phantom suppressor. I've only put 50 rounds or so through it but I like it. I haven't installed the Ares kit yet. It didn't take long for that Bushmaster upper to sell. That was a good price if you want a semi.

just fyi, the bm piston upper is based off the POF piston upper, while the bm piston conversion is based off the ares conversion; two different beasties.

Old thread resurrection here... The clamp that bushmaster supplies with the kit now, is available for sale separately, so if you have an older Ares kit and want to add the clamp call Bushmaster, they are a whopping $20.00.

Funny I just sold my MGI buffer. In my testing the MGI ran slightly slower than the AAC but this "smooth" thing must go over my head. Is slower smoother? I can't ell much difference between the MGI, AAC or Endine other than ROF.
