I started to put this in the "Ammunition" forum, but it said "Sell your surplus ammo, or let others know of good deals you've found". This is actually related the using it in the gun, so I think it is ok here...

Here is the problem. I shot the Winchester Value pack stuff in a Mini UZI setup with an open bolt. It was awful. A chug chug chug, hesitate....chug chug chug......hesitate again....etc,...sound to it. Enough to make you sick. There were no such problems with S&B, UMC, or even the dirty Wolf stuff that people sometimes complain about. So I was thinking, ok I guess this Winchester stuff just stinks, but everyone else seems to love it...

Furthermore, I put a closed bolt kit in the gun, and it dumps the same Winchester out just as fast and smooth as anything else. So, has anyone else had similar problems with the Win. value pack? I know most of the people on the board probably have the full size, but even then those are open bolt as well...Any comments on why it likes the closed bolt and not the open bolt?

winchester bulk ammo is not consistent. Tried a case of stuff last year that I bought in oklahoma, my brother bought the exact same type of ammo (Walmart I guess supplied to both ok and tx). and we both wound up with single shot weapons. Bang rack the handle bang rack the handle. So I really avoid the bulk ammo from winchester. Other loaded ammo may be ok, but the stuff they really mass produce just aint what it should be!

I'm not a fan of the Winchester bulk stuff. Seems underpowered to me.

That may very well be the case RoverDave...It is simply underpowered, yet the open bolt still goes back enough to eject...but maybe it is not going back enough to get a good return with the recoil spring. Does that make sense? On the other hand, the closed bolt has two springs working back there to push the bolt forward so it works fine on the return. Seems like a good theory as to why the closed bolt works. The only catch to that idea would be that if it was excessively underpowered I would think there would be trouble pushing back the two springs of the closed bolt...and causing it to work worse with the closed bolt. Then again, pgreen said it would not even cycle with his so I guess there must be some real inconsistency in the Winchester Ammo. Any other users have some comments on it?? I wonder if anyone has written to Winchester and told them how inconsistent it is? Winchester may not even care for that matter, since they seem to be selling a whole lot of it as is...

Winchester won't care. They really aren't making it for the machine gun market. As long as it cycles well in a pistol they're happy.

No problems with it here.

I shot about two cases of it in the past month and no problems here. My problems were gun related in my M11, but the pistols and Uzi have been good.

Do you keep your chamber clean? I've noticed that every gun I own functions better with a chamber that is initially clean and lubed. Any malfunctions show up later as the guns get dirty.

Yep, it was clean...The ammo did the whole inconsistent sputtering thing right after the gun was brand new, and after cleaned as well...

I shot over 10,000 rounds of the Win. value pack 9's and never a single ammo related problem. I can't beat it for blasting ammo.

I've shot many thousands of rounds of the value pack in my full size Vector with out any problems. I did have one case where you could hear the cyclic rate vary during a mag dump, but other wise, i've been pleased with the cost and availability of the Winchester.
