Has anyone swapped out the barrel and bolt in a Max-11/15 to 7.62x39?

If so, did it run well? Was it an IRM or ARRM?

As I recall, "chilli" did swap a 7.62x39 barrel into the Beta unit he tested and it worked fine. I believe it was an ARRM. I would message him to be sure. Something to keep in mind, most all the 7.62x39 AR barrels that I have seen use a 5.56X45 barrel extension other than the barrels in an AK mag specific upper. The top of the feed ramps can be sharp. The larger diameter rides on the top of the feed ramps. The feed ramps can be sharp enough to gouge into the round as it feeds into the chamber. That can add extra drag. I have found rounding off the sharpness of the top of the ramp and polishing it smooth with make for much less drag and smoother feeding. Good luck with your caliber change project.

I shot the MAX11/15 in 7.62x39. Just with the ARRM, but I will have to check my notes to make sure. It worked well and fed fine. As Scott mentioned, it does help to round the edges of the barrel extension. Not sure if it will make a difference on the MAX11/15, but it did on the M16 and that is the barrel I used to try out 7.62x39 in the MAX

Awesome, thanks for the info. Not sure when (or even if) I'll get around to trying it out, but if I do I'll be sure to post an update.

What mags were being used? Link to barrel? I am on the list for a max10/15 and would much rather run 7.62x39.

ASC 7.62x39 generation 2 AR mags work well. The larger diameter of the 7.62x39 round puts the center of the round lower. So there is a higher feeding angle of the round. I have found rounding and polishing the feed ramps improves the ease of the rounds chambering.
