I saw a pretty neat item today. Armalite makes a AR airsoft rifle. This rifle is so close to looking like a real AR it is scary. The only thing that tips you off is the orange flash supp. No cheap parts, metal, real AR parts, real GI modified mag. Barrel correct length and look but a little light making it unbalanced. Didnt find out price, but I bet it is not cheap. Dealer said they are designed to be a training tool.

Note that there are similar products available for somwhat less money (www.747imports.com, www.airsoftextreme.com, www.airsoftatlanta.com, etc) just do a search for 'airsoft'. These come from Japan, the lower cost ones utilize a plastic type polymer for the recevier; there are are higher priced units that use a metal shell receiver for more realism and weight.

These are great for indoor practice and can be fired in semi- or full automatic mode. Airsoft models of the UZI are also avialable.

I've seen some that look pretty cool but I could never get excited about plastic bb's after shooting the real thing.

For shooting targets, airsoft would be a snore. But for playing hardball, it's great! Far better than paintball. The guns work great and shoot much more accurately, so you spend your time really playing instead of screwing around with the gun. Those little bb's hurt when you get hit on a hard part of your body, but that's what makes the game so much fun.
