So, I finally got to take my new (to me) MAC 10/9 to the range, wearing it's brand new Lage MK2 upper... such a pretty sight.

Once I got the mags loaded (note to self, get a mag loader, my finger is cut to shreds) I proceeded to attempt to unload them, but it just didn't work correctly... as i set the weapon down on the firing line to clear the feed (of an original and proven mag) I picked up the weapon again, and the upper was loose.... THE PIN FELL OUT. It is an old style pin, which fits tight in the original upper, won't stay in the Lage Mk2 (no i haven't contacted them yet, it's Sunday). What I am looking for from all you addicts, is what pin can i use to replace this original when I use the Lage upper? Or did i do something wrong when i put the Lage upper on? I followed the picture directions pretty well.

TIA,.

Look in the box for your Lage Max-10/9 Mk2, there's a LAGE retaining pin included in the packing, with the side charging handle.

If not included by mistake, then contact Lage.

I have both a MK1 and a MK2, and neither of them have retaining pins int he packaging, so I will be dropping them an email today, and probably calling them after work tomorrow since they're West Coast ish

Your probably best to use one of those two piece pins? It retains better than the stock ones?

The Mk1 has a custom pin due to the plastic/polymer fore-end (otherwise, you never shot your mk1. correction: unless you had a metal foregrip, then you could use your stock pin); you must be recollecting incorrectly.

Both of my Mk2s (max-10/9 and -10/45) shipped with black oxide "newer-style" (i.e., spring loaded ball, not a bent-spring detent) pins.

I note that the Mk1 owner's manual references the retaining pin,
http://www.max-11.com/MAX109Upper.html

but the Mk2 does not (but the illustration shows the black oxide retaining pin).

Perhaps they are NOT included with the mk2 because you can use your original one, unlike the mk1

What Lawbob said. Also, maybe this thread will help:
http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?76492-MAC-10-upper-receiver-retaining-pin
As far as the mag loader, I highly recommend a mag lula universal mag loader. Since I have an M10/45 I had to remove material from various areas of the inside of the mag loader with a Dremel tool, but after my mods the loader works like a champ. If anyone is interested I could post pics with what to do to make it work. It might be easier for you with a 9mm, but YRMV.

Double feed mags (9s) should be easy to load. Question: are you pushing down and inserting each round (like a single feed)? Or pushing it straight down. DF are
Easy

I remember when I loaded mag upon mag of ar mags and was about fed up, then figured it out. You don't need a mag loader on DF mags...

As for single feed gg mags, I do it without a mag loader by using both thumbs in unison. Never had a prob. (Mag in left hand. Begin insertion of cartridge w right thumb and index finger, using left thumb to assist downward pressure on top of right fingernail)

...I had no idea the upper was supposed to come with a retaining pin. I went through every single piece of packing in mine and my Max-10/45 mk2 came without one. I've just been using this oddball fatmac threaded pin I've had laying around. Huh. I tried my original (notched center) and it just wobbles out since there is nothing locking it in place.

My Max10 Mk 1 with metal foregrip didn't come with a pin. Since my original grooved pin won't work I ordered the two piece pin.

I am a new MAC host owner, so I have never shot either Lage, and only before purchasing have I shot it as "all original"
While my device was in ATF jail, Lage announced the MK2 (which I signed up for) and then I got the bright idea to call and ask if they had any MK1s in stock (and they did, so I bought that one too)

I have not opened the MK1 packaging but went back and looked, no pin. the MK2 had no extra parts after I put it together, so no pin there either. I will reach out to Lage today, and make sure to get the correct ones ordered today.

Metal foregrip configuration on MK1 MAX-11 uses the original/factory pin. Plastic foregrip MK1 MAX-11 comes with a longer LAGE pin that comes with it. I think this is actually mentioned in the old MANUAL :)

So I spoke to Amy at Lage, and Concorde is correct, MK1 uses the factory pin, MK2 comes with a pin, mine is on the way.
Thanks again to the great customer service at Lage, and a smile is back on my face, and a range time has been scheduled again.

Thanks everyone for the advice, links, pictures and everything else.

No, the Mk1 has a longer pin, if you get a "factory" Mk1 (i.e., the plastic fore grip, not the metal trojan that's ribbed for her pleasure). My Mk2's came with pins (which is factory length, but spring-loaded ball, not bent spring).

Your welcome.

The Mk1 has a custom pin due to the plastic/polymer fore-end (otherwise, you never shot your mk1. correction: unless you had a metal foregrip, then you could use your stock pin); you must be recollecting incorrectly.

According to Lage when i called them this morning the MK1 I bought (a steel flat top model AND the last one they had in stock) uses the stock pin (which is why there isn't one in the kit), but mk2 comes with a pin that they forgot to send me, and shipped me free of charge today.

I will post pictures of the pin when it gets here, and i can post video (probably) of the MK2 with my stock pin falling out of it every time i pick it up. (Not to cause any tension, but to inform those who, like me, don't know)

Okay, let me try to set this straight...

The MAX-11 mk1 with the standard polymer grip came with a custom retaining pin that fit that grip. It is longer to match the width of the polymer handguard.

For the MAX-11 mk1 with the metal foregrip as an upgrade, the custom retaining pin was not included as it was not needed and stuck out too far. Your stock or aftermarket retaining pin would work with this grip.

The MAX-11 mk2 does not include a custom retaining pin since your stock or aftermarket retaining pin will also work with this upper.

We do make a custom low profile (short) retaining pin with ball bearing detent that works with the MAX-11 mk1 with metal foregrip upgrade or the MAX-11 mk2. This is an extra accessory and is not included with the upper.

The MAX-10/9 mk1 and MAX-10/45 mk1 with the standard polymer grip came with a custom retaining pin that fit that grip. It is longer to match the width of the polymer handguard.

For the MAX-10 mk1 with the metal foregrip as an upgrade, the custom retaining pin was not included as it stuck out too far. Your stock or aftermarket retaining pin would work with this grip unless it was the type that was held in with a latch in the OEM upper. These retaining pins are a straight cylinder with a groove in the middle for the latch in the upper to engage. For customers with these types of retaining pins we recommended they purchase an aftermarket KNS Pin or 2-piece retaining pin. Sometimes we would send the longer custom retaining pin to the customer, if they did not mind it sticking out too far.

With the MAX-10/9 mk2 and the MAX-10/45 mk2 we include a custom low profile retaining pin to eliminate any retaining pin compatibility issues.

Clear?

Is this available/functional for the MAX-31 mk2? I would like to replace my 2 piece pin.
