Hello all,
I’m brand new to the forum, very good info here. Looking forward to all the useful information. So, after many months of waiting, my 9mm, Full Auto, Group Vector Industries UZI, model A from what I can tell, is finally in my possession. I need your experienced help with my barrels that have came with my purchase please. I have not shot it yet untilI I can clear up a few things that I am getting conflicting information about. I have also bought the GSL Jericho suppressor that directly screws on to the Uzi securing the barrel, thus eliminating the barrel nut. Thought it would be a great suppressor for this SMG. Problem is, I can’t slide it completely over the barrel that came installed, (the 10.2“) can is not completely sliding over the barrel on the gun. It’s coming up about a quarter inch short of the beginning threads, It seems that there is a very slightly wider bulge in the barrel just about a half inch above where the barrel nut would have been located. Bulge looks to be designed into this particular barrel to me, very symmetrical bulge all the way around it. The barrel looks to be in fairly excellent shape, not defective as far as I can tell, good rifling grooves, no signs of overheating. I do have 4 other barrels that came with it I believe all after market, 3 from Pike Arms,2x 10.2” non-threaded & 8.5” threaded and other not sure who made 4th, but it’s a threaded 10.2 inch with a tri-lug on it between the threaded end and the barrel nut permanently installed. All the Pike Arms fit perfectly as well as the tri-lug are straight without the slight bulge and the GSL can fits over these just fine. 2 questions, first ,is the bulge I see on the first barrel normal for this model UZI or should every barrel be absolutely straight like the others I have?…second, the threaded barrel with the tri-lug, is there a special additional attachment that I need for this, or is this a standard type lug? In the photo the far left has the bulge..Thanks for any insight into this.

Looks like a squib load sent a bullet to that point and the next full power one hit it, bulging the bbl. It isn't supposed to be there. In that position it does no harm except maybe to accuracy but your suppressor obviously won't fit over it.

Thank you Sir for the quick responwe, unbelievable that the second bullet would cause that bulge to such a hefty built barrel, never have seen that before, so you’re saying that barrel is done!

Yeah, looks like a squib occurred. I have a buddy where that happened to him and the bulge was between the chamber and the trunion. You may be able to salvage that barrel by cutting it down and going with the 'short' UZI mount like I have mentioned on my site here: https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=1142

It looks salvageable, you may be able to thread it 1/2x28tpi to use a direct thread suppressor directly in front of the barrel nut. You’d also be able to thread a three lug adapter to it. Not a complete loss.

IMHO I would never try to salvage a bulged barrel. I know it’s not a high powered rifle but still. And Uzi barrels are relatively cheap. I can’t even believe the seller included that in the sale.

OP, it's absolutely, positively a bulge from a squibb round. If you stick a cleaning jag and patch in the chamber end and run it down, you will feel the tension come off the rod as you get to the bulge. Also, it will look like a dark ring inside the barrel. Hence the term "ringed barrel".

I wouldn't bother messing with a repair unless the bulged area could be completely cut off and the end of the barrel recrowned.
Guns with screwed up barrels can shoot really well, but the last 6 inches or so of the barrel need to be good or else they usually don't shoot well. I had a Garand that had a bore like a sewer pipe, but it shot great because the muzzle end of the barrel was good.

One of the nice things about UZIs is that they seem to shoot really well with Chineseium Alloy barrels, and new manufactured barrels are cheap. In fact, I prefer my no-name barrels to the IMI ones. The OP would spend a minimum of $50 on the ruined barrel, and a new one is like $140.

Not necessarily. I've been communicating with him. He is interested in my MK9K / Phoenix short UZI mount that I have listed here: https://www.uzitalk.com/forums/inde...ct9ks-shaw-mk9-mounts-and-barrel-work.100679/
If he were to buy the short mount, I would just cut his short barrel down for free. It appears to be a military barrel looking at the markings and I would expect it to have the proper OD so I wouldn't have turn down the barrel diameter or make a bushing or thread it.

Well, it's hard to say no to free stuff. Good solution all around.

I bought one of those 1980s S&W 9mm revolvers off gunbroker, paid like $1500 for it. It had the biggest barrel bulge you ever saw. But it was just to one side, which the seller cleverly hid. The seller took it back and issued me a refund, the greasy turdweasle. How he thought I wouldn't notice is beyond me.

I had a bowers nut mount for a CAC9 and it shot like crap on my UZI. Like 3 shots in 5 inches and the remaining two not even on the paper. He sent me two replacement mounts and it still shot like crap. so I got the screw on mount on an 8.5" barrel and it's a laser beam.

it looks like your mount is a combination of both systems?

Mine were made by GemTech. I got their remaining inventory before Dr Dater passed away. Never had accuracy issues with these…. I think because they also use the OD of the barrel for alignment

I agree, I would never sell someone a barrel like that and never even mention or give a heads up that the barrel was damaged. Oh well, live and learn. I have since notified the seller. New barrels have been purchased. Thanks for your advice.

Thank you for the reply and advice Sir. I think there’s a chance to salvage with a short can attachment from “Amphibian”

I know another guy with an UZI with a barrel nut mount and can from a different maker, and he had the same problem. Horrible accuracy.

Other people have the nut mount and say it's great.

I'm sure that indexing on the barrel like yours helps things.

I personally would have just cut the barrel behind the bulge and shot it.
I am the one that cut the barrel down for use with the old GemTech barrel nut short mount. I cut it down as short as I could for use with that mount. The barrel was damaged further back all way into the trunion. I was able to get a gauge pin back into the trunion area. It was ruined.

Ah, yeah that makes sense.
