It is my understanding that the M249 "upper" in 5.56X45 used a rewelded Post Sample machinegun receiver as the "upper". Had he used something other than a Post Sample machinegun receiver maybe things would have worked out differently. BTW a M60 is a 7.62X51 belt fed machinegun.

No. he got an approval letter and everything for both the 249 and RPD uppers. atf paid him a visit because he was trying to make a Semi auto Maxim.. he essentially poked ATF 1 too many times. they then re-evaluated his upper like this....

Note.. this also got ATF in trouble as they themselves added parts, yes even adding the zip ties is adding parts.. ATF is Forbidden from trying to evaluate anything in this manner again.
