I want a bbl/can combo that is definitely hearing safe!

From what I have read no rifle caliber is gonna be hearing safe for more than just a few shoots.

TABLE G-16 - PERMISSIBLE NOISE EXPOSURES (1)
______________________________________________________________
|
Duration per day, hours | Sound level dBA slow response
____________________________|_________________________________
|
8...........................| 90
6...........................| 92
4...........................| 95
3...........................| 97
2...........................| 100
1 1/2 ......................| 102
1...........................| 105
1/2 ........................| 110
1/4 or less................| 115
____________________________|________________________________
Footnote(1) When the daily noise exposure is composed of two or
more periods of noise exposure of different levels, their combined
effect should be considered, rather than the individual effect of
each. If the sum of the following fractions: C(1)/T(1) + C(2)/T(2)
C(n)/T(n) exceeds unity, then, the mixed exposure should be
considered to exceed the limit value. Cn indicates the total time of
exposure at a specified noise level, and Tn indicates the total time
of exposure permitted at that level. Exposure to impulsive or impact
noise should not exceed 140 dB peak sound pressure level.

Thanks, Tommy! Haven't seen that before! As I have already suffered Hearing Loss from Gunfire (Rifle &Artillery) I DEFINITELY wanna be Hearing Safe! These days, I even wear Muffs when shooting a 22!

If you are building a 300BLK use a barrel with a pistol length gas system for the best dependability. It doesn't matter what barrel length you use, you don't need an adjustable gas block. My 300 is an 8.5 inch barrel and AAC uses a 9 inch in their SBR. With subsonic loadings you don't really lose anything when dropping from 16 to 9. The pistol powders used are efficient in the shorter barrels.

That's good since I have read that even 22lr can damage hearing. I also have some hearing loss in my right ear (unknown) but I can remember back some years ago firing my AR once by mistake without HP that really rang that ear.

Also, are the problems associated with running a suppressor on an AR/M16 predominantly found when firing in full auto or are they present in semi as well? In other words, if you run a suppressor on a semi AR is it necessary to modify the gun?

Are we talking 5.56/223 or 300BLK? This thread seems to be going back and forth.

Update: I finally finished the upper using the MicroMOA Govnah. It works, I am happy. With the switch in the suppressed position, and the ran on, it runs 100%. Take the can off, and it stops ejecting the spent case. Switch to either unsuppressed or adverse and it ran. I couldn't really feel much difference in recoil, but it was throwing the brass further on adverse.

I am happy.
