After much anticipation, I received my Galil from an individual (out of state) through my dealer. He stated no issues and the sights were dead on. My only day off was during the cold spell 25 degrees in South Texas is COLD!!! for us. I went through the function test (2-factory 35rd mags and 5-30rd tapco mags), No lube, straight out of the box, 15-20 rds each mag, No FTF's,No FTE's, No Hiccups, Ran like my AK!, mags locked up solid,no wobble, I used Remington and American Eagle 55gr brass factory ammo. From the bench I used my Delta rest at 25meters, I used the 300 aperature, the 500 aperture is a microscopic pinhole to my 55 year old eyes!, Windage was set almost dead center on the front sight post,Windage was almost dead on w/ my 2 shot groups, elevation a little high, the group size was 1.5 to 2", I'm a little disappointed in the accuracy. I tore it down for cleaning, the buttstock locked up tight, the receiver cover is very tight, so are the front and rear sights, the rails and internals look good, the the bolt looks Well USED (Worn), could not see any peening, I like the Galil, I want to do some more troubleshooting and range time before I decide to sink more $$ into it or sell it. I apologize for the lengthy report, Any advice, tips or observations would be greatly appreciated from Galil Talk.
Thanks

Shoot it with some good 68/69 grain bullets at 100 or even 200 yards, and you probably will be a lot happier. These have 1 in 9 twist barrels, they are made for heavier stuff.

I (and many others!) would be ecstatic to have their Galil/Golani run like the one you have. You are certainly one of the lucky ones.

The Galil/Golani seems to have an exc. reputation for accuracy, largely due to the "peep" sights and the longer sight radius. In fact, the accuracy of the Golani/Galil seems to be the one area that folks haven't had an issue. Just shoot it and enjoy it, and as Hagar said, try some different ammo.

Roll that back, playa...

1/9 is optimized for M193/55gr bullets.
1/7 is optimized for M855/62gr bullets.

You will not achieve good results with the very heavy 5.56x45 from a 1/9.

1 in 9 is specifically used by many manufacturers because it is felt it may be the optimum twist for both 50 to 59 grain and 60 to 69 grain bullets. As others have mentioned, try different ammo (because each gun seems to have one "it" likes the best). I would not give up on the 55g stuff just yet, try everything from 50 to 69 grains.:rifleman

Kalishnikev and Che,
I am glad that you guys brought the twist rate and bullet weight up, since I am new here I didn't want to tell Hagar that he was backwords on his thinking. There are a lot of folks out there that are stated that the 1-9 twist will handle the heavier bullets, the reason I say this is a guy come up to me Sat. and was asking me how much I would charge him to build a target AR, and as he was telling me that he wanted a 1-9 twist so he could shoot the big bullets, I told him that I hated to bust his bubble but someone had been telling him wrong on that subject. So there is some bad info out there.

My experience with my Golani is pretty much exactly like yours. The only exception being that the factory steel mags had some wobble (the tapco dont) and the American Eagle "Tactical" ball was totally unreliable with every malfunction you can name. All .223 ammo ran flawlessly. Great rifle, very accurate. (Better than my Colt M4 believe it or not)

Weird, I have the opposite issue. My steel mags lock up tight but the Tapco wobble.

I have a ar mag adapter and no issues. A nice upgrade. I was going to sell my arms model until I took it to the range. It shoots better than my rockriver
