I'm looking to get into the FAL world, needless to say I know little about them. There is a local gunshop that I heard has a few in stock, and I intend to go to check them out. My question is if anyone here has any knowledge as to what I should be looking for as to possible problems with the gun and what not. Knowing that this gun is made by Century, I figured that there is probably a lot of problems floating around with these rifles, I mean come on its Century. Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

who made the receiver? Alot of the century guns were junk, but they did make a few decent ones.

if you wanna be happy with a century built rifle.....don't buy it and you will be happy.

That being said, Years ago, I got a century built L1a1 on a Imbel receiver. was friends with a gunsmith, who at the time was a well known FAL smith and had his shop right next to mine, came over and immediately took it away. he completely went through the rifle and refinished it, and put his name on it. I don't really consider it a Century rifle anymore.....guess that is why I am so happy with it.

Want me to tell you about my Century Tantal AK74?????????? it has not turned out so well......but, it is sitting in a corner waiting on becoming my next 7.62x25 project.

The old "Made in Canada" Century L1A1's were put together with Imbel or Argie receivers and almost brand new British parts kits. Get rid of the thumbhole stock and it will be as good a Fal as you can get.

I have one of the older ones from the 90s. It has always worked well, despite being assembled from obviously very used parts-even a few dark spots in the bore. My main complaint was a very ugly trigger pull which I finally fixed with a FSE fcg and a different trigger return spring. I think with Century stuff it's just the luck of the draw. One ploy is to buy a used one from someone who will let you try it out.

I had a competent gunsmith re-torque the barrel on mine and headspace it, after that I never worried about it even though it ran fine before that, just didn't trust Century.

I had their R1A1 model , I put over 2000 rounds of Port 308 through it without a hitch .

Minus the stoppages caused by the $2 Tapco mags that became targets.

I have an early 1990's made in Canada L1a1 that has never given me any trouble. Since 1994 I have put just over 1000rds of mostly early 1990's german MEN83 ammo though it along with some commercial federal and winchester.

About 5yrs ago I wanted a para version but mine shot really well so I decided to use DSA parts to change it over to a para. It still works fine with the almost $800.00 of DSA US made para parts and scope rail, bipod, new handguards, etc..... This was not necessary but "I just had to have it".

The saw grip is a big improvement that I recomend for any FAL.

I do like it better now but it has always been a solid rifle.
