If someone could verify and prove they are genuine IMI barrels, they would sell out in a heartbeat. Someone else told me these barrels have none of the typical IMI markings, which makes "proving" they are IMI next to impossible I think. A different person told me these were made "FOR" IMI by a third party contractor outside of Israel, and that is where the "IMI" claim is coming from. If they are made by a third party, then their value as original IMI barrels plummets to what they are selling for. I'd buy 9 or 10 if they were genuine, and I have bought two knowing they may very well not be.

I know a girl who works for Cope's. She's on the ar15armory.com forum. I'll ask her.

I''l bet they're the same barrels that AofA and Apex are selling. 1-12 twist, not chrome, no thanks.

These are the very same. South American contract bbl's, most likely Columbia.

These are the same barrels as the 2 other outfits selling them.

I own one. Not sure if I would install this on a build.

I wish someone could prove they are from South America.

Being serial numbered before fitted to a rifle makes this a little more guess work.

Although some countries, the barrel is the rifle, not the receiver. Go figure.

The advestised says Galil barrels; not IMI barrels. Don't think these were produced by them.

What does that mean?

Also, the advertisement actually does say they are IMI barrels.

Well, she got back to me this morning and here is my question then her answer:

Me: Hey Carmen!

Happy New Year! Hope you're doing well.

Some guys on the Uzi Talk forum were wondering if these barrels are authentic IMI or if they were made by a manufacturer using IMI specs.

http://www.copesdistributing.net/product_i...roducts_id=3112

Any idea?

Thanks!

Karl

Carmen: "These barrels are Authentic. We got them in and they came straight from overseas!"

Unless you bought one and held it up to other IMI barrels; I would like to see the proof /documentation.

I bought one and not impressed with it. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I agree. I wasn't sold on her answer since it wasn't very specific, hence the "don't know" smiley.

I wish instead of saying "they are authentic, we got them straight from overseas she they had said "yes, they are made by IMI"....there is a hell of alot of places "overseas"....

Isn't the barrel importation ban still in effect?

Yep. I, too, was kinda wondering how they are available.

Good for them, though.

I thought new barrels could be imported, not used military barrels. I thought I read that somewhere. I don't study the law though.

51.Note: No surplus military frames, receivers or barrels are authorized for importation under this permit.
52.Note: Pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 925(d)(3), this permit does not authorize the importation of frames, receivers, or barrels for (1) firearms subject to the National firearms Act (NFA), 26 U.S.C. Chapter 53, including machineguns and destructive devices; (2) firearms that are not generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes; and (3) surplus military firearms. Alternatively, barrels for the foregoing firearms may be modified so they are incapable of use as barrels by cutting a hole equal to the diameter of the bore through one side in the high pressure (chamber) area.

Last i checked the Galil is considered a military firearm- i.e. carried by the armed forces of more than one county and the kits in the U.S. are mil. spec. surplus.

i'm with Ed though- good for them.

So . . . besides whether he was 'creative' in the importation . . .

Has anyone made a YES or NO call on these? Whether they are worth putting on a build or not? $70 + shipping is not the issue for me, what it is is whether they are a good barrel that will shoot true for 8,000 - 10,000 rounds or so.

Anyone?

Pray tell just what specifically is it about these barrels that " you are not impressed with " ?

Maybe he isn't impressed unless it is marked IMI? To me, if they are correct in profile, fit, finish and shoot straight it's all good, unless the barrel is meant for a collectable rifle, then other factors come into play.

Imported barrels seem to be available, East German, Romanian and now Galil. The answer is in the proof marks on these " IMI barrels". Anyone have a contact in Columbia ?
